| Description |
English: Up 'Flying Scotsman' passing York Racecourse (Holgate) Platform. View NE, towards York Station (ahead, York Yards left), the major NER centre on the ECML. In 1950 this famous express was no longer the 'Non-Stop' - which was the 'Capitals Limited', but called at Newcastle and Grantham, not at York. Here it is hauled by Gresley A4 4-6-2 No. 60018 'Sparrow Hawk' (built 12/37 as No. 4463, fitted with double-chimney 10/57, withdrawn 6/63). The Racecourse Platform was an ideal spot for train-watching, being always open but rarely used. |
