Description This beautiful achondrite fell in April of 1936 in Mikhailov, Ukraine. Yurtuk is a howardite, a class named after the famous chemist Edward Charles Howard. Howardites contain a combination of eucrite and diogenite fragments that have been mixed together and dislodged by an impact event. Furthermore, howardites contain pieces of the impactor. This class of meteorites is truly a hodgepodge and I find them very interesting. Yurtuk has a lot going for it. It is a hammer stone, a witnessed fall, a rare class, and it has a low TKW of just 1472 grams. While I generally tend to avoid sub gram specimens, I just couldn't pass on this one. Orgin: S. Vasiliev. Wt: 0.227 g.
