Bildtext: "Gamla wärendska yxor" Text: "Yxan framträder ifrån äldsta tider, och förmodligen ända ifrån sten-åldern, såsom Wärends-boarnes allmännaste folk-vapen. Ännu för få mansåldrar tillbaka gick ingen gerna utom sin dörr, utan att föra sin yxa på armen eller i handen. Detta gällde till och med för hafvande qvinnor, hvilka ännu i manna-minne alltid gingo med yxa. Och rådfråga vi landets domböcker, så finna vi på hvarje sida, hurusom bonden vid början af 1600-talet alltid medförde sin yxa och andra vapen, icke blott till skogen och på åkern, utan ock till gille och gästabud, ja, äfven till kyrkan." |
