Head cordate, much shorter than the tibiaand more rounded in the male than in the female; the occipito-parietal and supra-orbital regions full and prominent; snout short; nostril slightly above or on the lineof the canthus rostralis and directed backwards and upwards, in the hinder part of arather large and swollen nasal shield; ear larger than the eye-opening; skin of theneck and throat in loose folds. Limbs long and slender, the fore limb when laidforwards has the wrist in advance of the snout; the hind limb when stretchedforwards has the tip of the fourth toe as far forward as the snout, or it may onlyreach to the eye; the tibia is longer than the distance between the occiput (skull) and Cat. Tail about twice as longas the head and body, rather broad at the base and depressed, the remainder laterallycompressed. Scales on the head large, most so on the supraorbital area, where theyare flat and tessellate or slightly imbricate in arrangement, but more or less obscurely,excentrically acuminate or ridged on the upper surface of the snout, where they aremore irregular in form and size ; on the occipito-parietal region they are also occa-sionally more or less feebly pointed; a series of large scales in an antero-posterioroblique line midway between the ear and the posterior angle of the orbit; an enlargedtriangular scale near the lower end of the anterior border of the ear, variouslydeveloped; no spines on the head or neck.
