Shouldn't Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands be also marked as a part of the US? --Excolis (talk) 19:17, 24 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Maybe. There's no easy answer to this. It depends on how independent you consider Puerto Rico to be. You can ask the same for Guam, Navassa, etc. This map shows at least a a very popular view. Here, the U.S. mainland consists of the 50 states + D.C. Puerto Rico is hatched. If you like a different map better (showing Puerto Rico and other territories like other U.S. territories), please create a different map (new filename). Plz check out Category:SVG locator maps of insular areas in the United States (location map scheme) for templates. I did most maps in that category. I always (?) decided not to to shows state borders, because associated overseas territories are clearly not alike a U.S. state but form seperate administrative entities. --TUBS 21:01, 24 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
