general comments edit

We have now (for the first time!) a precise made SVG-file for the National Flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran. As reference see the URL http://www.isiri.org/portal/files/std/1.htm in Persian from 1993. Also you may have a look at the needed geometric, algebraic and numeric considerations which are necessary in URL http://0xc.de/flags/iran/.

Remember: this SVG-file, as any SVG image, is not rendered, but will be rendered only when displayed. Therefore you, the user, has the freedom to choose what size you want to get displayed (in contrast to a ready-rendered graphic like, jpeg, png, gif, ... of fixed size). This also means: you may choose a size which can be well or worse rendered!

A general hint: don't choose sizes which are prime numbers. Best are sizes which take care of flag symmetries, e.g. width divisible by 3 for Iran's flag (or even length divisible by 225), or in general, for arbitrary (unknown) designs, choose sizes which contain many small factors (divisible by 2, 3, 4, 6, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 120, 180, 240, 360, 420, ... -- for mathematician: highly composite numbers) !

Moreover the current used SVG-renderer in many browser is bad because it doesn't do clever rendering/scaling to the wanted size. If you really need a flag image of a strange size, e.g. 701x401, you should render the SVG in the original given size (or an integer multiply of it) to a jpeg, png, or what ever pixel-graphic format. Then scale this jpeg, png-image down to your wanted size! Thereby you are using the jpeg, png-renderer which uses color-anti-aliasing and you highly probable will get a nicer image than the SVG-renderer would (currently) result(s) in! reason for change / new version on 20:14, 21 June 2012 edit

The red center emblem has a mirror symmetry. This is also used for its construction. Sadly some buggy SVG-renderer produces a 1-pixel thick line at the center when scaling to odd lengths. To avoid this I draw the bottom of the sword a tiny bit in direction to its mirrored lower point N and the small crescent at the top in its concave corner also a bit to the other side of the center line. Then these shapes overlap a bit when mirrored and no "hole" in the line of symmetry should remain. Achim1999 (talk) 20:23, 21 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

version 21:24, 21 June 2012 edit

Different SVG-coding-syntax for exactly the same geometry as version of 20:14, 21 June 2012, such that the SVG-to-png renderer works correctly. Don't trust software you have not written by yourself. :-( Achim1999 (talk) 21:28, 21 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

color definition of the flag edit

Currently, there are no precise RGB / pantone or other color-specifications publicly known. As long as this is the case, don't ask for other color shades than just used! Either this is not defined for the official National Flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran or you must give a checkable(!) source to such an official document that a special stated color shade can be verified! In the persian documents, the colors are called "red" and "green". This wikimedia-"color-politic" is also valid for all other reproductions of official signs in general. What do you do with the flag? edit

Hello Note:http://up.vatandownload.com/images/2xhsh8kjvb47rm4ec2pw.png Do you allow me to do and you give an example? Sam esfid (talk) 14:25, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Sam
Please
  • read (and hopefully understand) the explanation File Talk:Flag of Iran.svg#general comments.
  • explain your question / idea / statement / opinion ... precisely in English or German. :)
  • and if you think a picture is (as further support) good for explanation, choose a (temporary) new name, load it up on wikimedia and give me a pointer to this image.
But if you think this should be of interest for public, then write your proposal better on the talkpage File Talk:Flag of Iran.svg.
Thanks and Regards, Achim1999 (talk) 08:57, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
You repeat your statements, I repeat my reply. ;) See User talk:Achim1999#What do you do with the flag? I deleted the missdesigned by me by purpose (experimental) flag File:Flag of Iran the other way.svg. If you expect more, you definitively should fullfill my 2nd point. :) Achim1999 (talk) 19:21, 25 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

version of 22:06, 26 June 2012 edit

This is a geometric correct fix for the render-bug of the 1-pixel thick green/red line which may occur between the "Allahu Akbir" and the middle white strip at improper chosen flag height (not divisible by 3) due to wrong rendering (-philosophy?) of SVG.

version of 09:36, 27 June 2012 edit

Next fix: there were effectively drawn 24 "Allah Akbar" patterns , but two precisely over each other. The current SVG-render-algorithm and internal rounding errors make this visible for some image sizes. Thus this fix to avoid unnecessary over-drawing.

further fixes needed? edit

Maybe. But before convincing me, convince other developers to write better SVG-renderer! Else I can give you the hint: use flag lengths which are multiples of 225. Achim1999 (talk) 09:54, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Note regarding FotW's construction edit

FotW's interpretation of ISIRI's "simplified" construction sheet appears to be incorrect, so I haven't exactly followed it for my newly uploaded version of this file. FotW shows the width of each instance of the takbir as 38 units, and the "whitespace" between adjoining takbirs as 2 units, on a 441-units-wide flag. This would make the total width of the eleven takbirs on each side of the white stripe 11*38+10*2 = 438 units. If these numbers were right, that would leave only 1.5 unit of whitespace on each side, which appears to should have been six to match the geometric construction and ISIRI's image. The file here now uses this 6:438:6 proportion takbir row, whose height is 49/900 (13.72/252) of the hoist rather than the 14/252 FotW shows.

In short, I think the current version is right and FotW is wrong regarding the takbirs. The measures of the takbirs in my file are also pretty much identical to the previous version of this file (the only visible differences between the latest two versions are the emblem size, the sword and the stripes nearest the white stripe within each takbir). Please remove the note regarding Inkscape showing the emblem wrongly from the file page; this has been fixed in the newest Inkscape version. While still not perfect (each arc is still rendered as a single cubic Bezier curve), the distortion is now minimal. SiBr4 (talk) 09:30, 24 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
