Purpose of this map edit

example of state locator maps

This map of India is used as a base for creating locator maps as well as informative maps like rail and road maps.

Requirements and rationale for the map convention edit

1. distinguish between indian and foreign territory

This is accomplished by using a two color scheme: pale yellow for Indian administered regions and light brown for foreign territory

2. the overlayed or highlighted information must be clearly distinguished from the background

Light red is used for highlighting areas, so that it contrasts clearly with the background pale yellow

3. minimum color palette for simplicity

totally only four colors are used for: indian territory, foreign territory, highlighted region and water bodies

4. maximum information on the disputed border regions without comprimising simplicity

All the borders found in an official survey of India map has been depicted and wherever these borders are not internationally recognised, it is shown as broken line. The interface of the indian and foreign regions automatically depict the line of actual administrative control.

Indian Official SOI India political map Official SOI India political map]- All maps in India have to be approved by the Survey of India and depict the international boundary with the historical extent of the Kashmir kingdom. All the boundaries from official Indian maps are included, but are broken wherever they are disputed, in Kashmir(with Pakistan and China) as well as Arunachal Pradesh(with China)
Pakistani Govt of Pakistan - Correct map includes the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir and Siachen Glacier as part of Pakistani territory but is marked as disputed. The eastern extent is officially undefined. The entire state of Jammu and Kashmir has been depicted with broken borders clearly showing it is a disputed region. Also since the line of control is shown, one can precisely see which part of Kashmir is administered by India. Since text is not included within the map itself, detailed notes have been given on each map page for further information on the region File:India_map_blank.svg#Notes. Since Siachen Glacier is a conflict zone it is shown seperately in white
Chinese Google Map China Chinese maps show Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh as part of their territory
