Vandalism edit

This map is a representation of original research and as such should not be edited to suit anyone's agenda or personal preference. Changes that do not enhance the information amounts to vandalism and renders the image unusable. The original hi-res svg file should be kept intact. --Jgmrichter (talk) 17:04, 21 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Minor fixes needed edit

Yes, you're right. And there are some other minor fixes that would be good. I'll see what I can do. Koyos (talk) 16:12, 27 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Translatability: The file doesn't seem to be translatable by opening it with Inkscape or any Unicode-compatible text editor. Why? I can't seem to find the text strings that can be translated. Am I missing something? Please, look into this matter, as I am interested in translating this SVG image into Bulgarian. Thanks in advance! --Ve4ernik (talk) 05:43, 28 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Major ERROR: edit

What the hell is Portugal doing in 'Latin America'? Get a map before doing this sort of 'artwork'. -- 16:45, 11 October 2010 193.136.214.190

Poor Geography edit

Portugal is not in Latin America and Uruguay is not in Catholic Europe. Now if one were to argue that Portuagal's values are more "Latin American" than "European" that's fine, but you should state that this is an arguement you are making and not a staement of geographic fact, b/c it just makes us look stupid. The map is not a geographical map at all, it is a map of cultural values. The map is not an "argument", it is based on hundreds of thousands of measurements of the actual values of people in these nations. The coordinates of the nations on the map are the result of a mathematical (statistical) procedure.

Colored categories should be removed. edit

Unless Inglehart specified these groupings (Protestant Europe, etc.) I think they should be removed. Besides the fact that many countries are erroneously categorized (Israel is not in Europe, nor is it a mostly Christian country), the categories themselves are not coherent: three are geographical, three are religious, and one is linguistic. This leads to questions like where does the UK go? English speaking, or Protestant Europe? Where does Israel go? English speaking is the only category that appears to have a claim to represent it, but not by much. 76.117.247.55 03:13, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

It seems that "Protestant" means "traditionally predominantly Lutheran/Calvinist". Obviously Israel is not a Catholic European country, but its values on the two scales places it among countries in that classification -- the way to fix this might be to create a small non-green island around the Israel dot (if you think it's important). The categories seem to be semi-ad-hoc, intended to point out suggestive groupings in the data, rather than a rigid fully-specified and consistent scheme... My concern is that it tends to make the map look shoddy and suggest poor scholarship. 76.117.247.55 06:08, 10 July 2011 (UTC)Reply
The groupings/categories are the exact same ones as specified by Inglehart. The categories are not what the map is about, really: the point of the map is to show how nations are distributed in terms of the two most important dimensions of cultural values. At the same time, the researchers behind this have most certainly designed and categorized things this way for very good reasons. Israel having the same color as protestant countries probably means that Israelis, overall, have a similar cultural outlook to that of protestant Europe (in dimensions beyond this map).
Please, do not change this. Koyos (talk) 20:55, 23 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please correct this file edit

Discussion in en:File talk:Inglehart Values Map.svg mentioned many errors and no actions for several months. Please clean it up. --Quest for Truth (talk) 11:16, 20 September 2011 (UTC) Also the original map can be referenced. --Quest for Truth (talk) 11:25, 20 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Greece edit

Greece is not a Catholic country. It belongs to the Orthodox culture which is shaded red, but strangely unlabeled on the map.

Now, you can argue whether or not such geographical categories should be "fixed" (as many have done), but since People have already switched the categories for Portugal, Uruguay, and Israel, why not Greece as well?

North Macedonia edit

Hey guys, since North Macedonia and the Prespes agreement, can we get on with the Erga Omnes and rename the country on the map? — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.0.161.163 (talk) 19:10, 17 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
