The Philistines did not ever have a state or exist as a nation or a people. Philistine is the Roman name derived from the Hebrew phishtim meaning foreign invader. The Aegean sea farers who raided the southern coast were simply known as 'foreign invaders'. They were skirmishers, nothing more. Their connection to the land was fleeting. The re-naming of Judea to Palestine took place in 135AD by the Romans. Palestine as a district encompassed all the land just west of Amman to the sea. The Arab claim to Palestine is completely spurious. --anon

Incorrect capital

the capital of Edom at the time was not Petra, its Bozrah (modern Busaira), Petra didn't appear for another 900 years.
Sizu

What was Sizu? I know Wikipedia has an article about absolutely everything, so imagine my astonishment when I couldn't find it... There is en:Sisu, but nothing about Sizu, even on the dab page there. 173.245.131.71 19:13, 9 January 2017 (UTC)
Umomium - is this a fake name?

I have never come across this name... and I have looked for it. I suspect it is fake and should be removed. (I can produce a replacement map if it is so agreed) Muchado (talk) 13:52, 29 October 2022 (UTC)

This map has a few errors on it because of the source map. I have updated it:
1. Petra is shown which did not exist at the time. The actual capital Bozrah (modern Bozairah) has been added
2. Umomium / Urmomium is a fake place name that has been removed (Ur mom... = "your mom" etc)
3. Ashtaroth has been added
4. Arabu has been replaced by Arubu
5. Philistine States has been replaced by Philistine City States
Please check that label for "Philistine City States" shows up. For some reason it does not show up on all thumbnails. Muchado (talk) 14:35, 14 April 2023 (UTC)
