Errors edit

  • North of Iran, around the Caspian Sea, there are areas which are extremely wet and because they don't have a month with less than 30 mm of precipitation. That needs to be corrected, for example, Rasht with an annual precipitation of 1,355.5 mm, and Sari with an annual precipitation of 947.3 mm, can't be classified as semi-arid (around 400 mm) at all. The area should be painted with the color of Cfa/Csa, not BSk.

* Brisbane in Australia, qualifies as Cwa, not Cfa as in the map. The area needs to have the color of Cwa, because its driest month has less than 30 mm of precipitation in its colder season. (I stroked it as I realized that is wrong --Mahmudmasri (talk) 12:32, 24 August 2013 (UTC))Reply
Therefore all the maps based on this one need to be modified, but let's start with this one first. The rest can be cropped of this one :) --Mahmudmasri (talk) 22:08, 16 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Not sure about Brisbane, but correct about the Caspian coast of Iran (which is temperate rainforest; Cfa on the coast, but Cfb in the foothills of the Alborz, and Cfc even higher - and even spots of ET on Mount Damavand and other high summits). The problem is, the areas concerned are narrow so they would only be a pixel or two wide, and very hard to indicate clearly. There's actually plenty of other errors in the map, e.g. the Pyrenees showing as a round blob of ET, rather than a narrow strip. - MPF (talk) 00:05, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I see. Maybe the map needs to have a higher resolution and it won't be perfect, but as you said about Pyrenees, at least there was some indication that there is an area with a differing climate. The problem with the map is that it also has the political (imaginary, unnatural) boundaries which makes it even harder to paint thin areas with different colors. I know there is a lot to edit on the map, for example, Reykjavik in Iceland is painted with the Dfc color, while it's Cfc. I hope that this conversation would be helpful for you or others in the future to correct it. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 09:37, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! The Reykjavik area was one of the other errors I also noticed ;-) I'll save a copy and start working on it over the next few days. Do please note any other errors you find here in case I miss them, I'll check here regularly for updates before I upload the revised version. - MPF (talk) 13:37, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
One other thing I'd like to change, to make EF (icecap) a different colour so it is not the same as coastlines - my preference is very pale blue (nearly, but not quite white). Anyone any comments? - MPF (talk) 15:07, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much for your effort. I'm not sure I noticed other errors. About the color, well, as long as its distinguishable, then go for it :) --Mahmudmasri (talk) 10:49, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
You're welcome! For other errors, the Himalaya and the Tibetan plateau is in a mess, I'm working on that area too. And eastern Turkey shouldn't have all that dark purple Dsb. - MPF (talk) 00:06, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I noticed that Locarno (south of Switzerland) fulfills Cfa criteria, but not colored as though. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 13:55, 24 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Abha in Saudi Arabia is BSh, not BWh. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 20:16, 6 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

The University of Melbourne logo should be removed edit

Or at least it should be made clear that the current version is not wholly based on their research, but it has been altered by commons users.--Underlying lk (talk) 21:06, 21 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I'd already removed it from the edit I'm working on (per Commons watermarks policy), so it'll be gone when I upload the new version - MPF (talk) 12:43, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Switzerland ET zone too big edit

The Map shows 90% of Switzerland as having ET climate ("no month with an average temperature in excess of 10 °C"), which cannot be right. The northern half has at least 5 months above 10°C, see [1], [2]. Could somebody fix this? Thanks! Bonomont (talk) 19:07, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
