Which work? edit

The poster on this page is not from "Der Zigeunerbaron" but from the French version of "Die Fledermaus". —Preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.184.148.14 (talk) 04:13, 16 December 2013‎ (UTC)Reply

Why then has the poster in big letters "La Tzigane"? There's no gypsy in Die Fledermaus whose French title is La Chauve-souris. You are correct, however, that the poster is not for Der Zigeunerbaron but for the Paris première of the 1877 work La Tzigane, a pastiche by Jacques-Albert Anschütz of Strauss' Die Fledermaus and Cagliostro in Wien (Strauss' was in Paris to supervise the production). I don't know why that pastiche is called La Tzigane; its female lead role is La Princesse Arabelle and there's Melchior, Chef Tzigane. The score lists in act 2 a "chanson tzigane" and a number called "Sortie de la Tzigane". I think the most notable thing about that work is this poster by Jules Chéret. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 04:30, 16 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
