Hi

The source for this image is not transparent. I was searching for 'literacy statistics from the UN Human Development Report 2011', however it is hard to pin any data source relating to 2011. The best I found is this page:

http://hdrstats.undp.org/en/indicators/101406.html

Would someone be so kind to present what source was actually used to get the percentages based on which the colors were assigned to the countries? --巡 Mihajlo [ talk ] 11:13, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

According to the actual data, p. 159, items 59 and 74 (courtesy of sr:User:Wikiwind), both Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina had literacy rate 97,8%. I shall modify the image to fix those two items. --巡 Mihajlo [ talk ] 12:33, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
So, let us see what source did you use, Turn685. --巡 Mihajlo [ talk ] 12:56, 8 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I found the article here [1] (page 158-161). I was kinda confused where to reply because I had to follow your comments. I created the color chart and colored the countries individually. If there is a country that is the wrong color then it is a mistake because this map is made by me, not the UN. I am very sorry if I got a color wrong because I had to do it one by one and I had to look up every country. They have a program now that can make maps so I hope to find it and link it so someone can change it. --Turn685 (talk) 05:30, 10 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Also, I apologize that the source I posted is the same thing as your comment above. It says you wrote two days ago but I just saw your latest comment right after I posted...so I'm not sure if the page is updating right on my user page or browser...--Turn685 (talk) 05:35, 10 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
In fact, I would like you to go through the image & the source and check its correctness. At least Albania (95.9% literacy rate, p. 159, item 70) has the color it should not have. Maybe you are not conscious of it, but newspapers were taking your photo for the international day of literacy. And there - the two countries having much Serbian population were displayed with lower literacy rate than it actually is. It is curious what made your tool change color particularly for those countries, but not for Albania that received better color rating than it actually should have. --巡 Mihajlo [ talk ] 19:11, 11 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi again! I'm sorry for the absence...I didn't know that some countries weren't right until you brought it up. :) Thank you for notifying me. I'm not sure if this is important but when I was coloring the countries blue I switched shades and was concerned that I might not have gotten all of the countries filled. I'm really surprised that newspapers are using the picture because it is not an official source from an organization (and it is self made by someone on the internet who is not affiliated with anybody). I'm worried about newspapers not getting reliable sources...is there any way you can kindly provide the link?

I would like to go through it again and check out all of the countries. So maybe the best solution right now would be to remove it from the page temporarily (until it's updated). Right now I've copied the list for literacy rates onto a word document (So if you want a copy, I have it!). I'm going to enter these into a program called StatPlanet which should create a new map later today or tomorrow. Hopefully we can update this map with the right info. :) --Turn685 (talk) 12:44, 24 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I've made a page with the statistics in case I can't get to it or anything comes up. [2] <- here
