Extend notice area edit

I changed my preferences to allow for more than one notice on the screen at one time. This showed two notices, but the screen area is rather small. Do you think we could either A) Allow users to drag and extend screen size or B) Have a bigger area for these notices when this option is chosen? Killiondude (talk) 21:16, 25 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

In theory, users should mark messages as read or read one message by one. Allowing temporary resizing (the height is not saved) is possible in modern browsers now. The reason using a fixed height for the container is that if you disable folding of the notice section when it is empty, the content of the watchlist does not "jump" and it also prevents flooding users with a huge message list (just in case we are going to use it more frequently). -- Rillke(q?) 22:23, 25 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
After careful consideration, I also agree with B) ad it is a non-default option. I will implement this now. Thanks for your comments. They are appreciated. -- Rillke(q?) 18:25, 26 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Done. -- Rillke(q?) 20:15, 26 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I think this tool is great and an effective way for people to receive notices. Killiondude (talk) 21:04, 26 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Mono suggested to show this also at the you-successfully-logged-in-page (that page that is shown directly after logging-in) and the Community portal. I would like it. What is your opinion? -- Rillke(q?) 21:39, 26 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think that's a good idea. The more times we can use one gadget (where messages can be dismissed) to announce things, the better. Killiondude (talk) 20:24, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

General Comments/Questions edit

Opera message edit

I'm subscribed to the tech messages, yet my watchlist notice doesn't show the Opera message recently added. Is this a feature or a bug? Killiondude (talk) 20:24, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Are you using opera 12.x or 13.x and do you have the UploadWizard gadget activated? I tested it yesterday with opera 12.15 and it worked. -- Rillke(q?) 07:15, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
I didn't inspect the diff enough to see that it was based on what browser you're using. I didn't know you were able to fine tune these messages that way. That's pretty neat! So, false alarm. Killiondude (talk) 18:07, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's great. Thank you. -- Rillke(q?) 21:20, 5 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Documentation edit

Am I right in thinking that the documentation for users who want to set up a message remains to be written? For example, on a quick read-though I was unable to find anything which indicates whether any user can set up a message, including non-admin users. Presumably it's intended for admins only? Very good job, anyway. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 07:13, 16 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, it isn't complete, yet. Of course, the final decision whether a notice will be listed is an admin's decision (MediaWiki:WatchlistNotice can only be edited by administrators) but I think the Wizard should also allow people without admin previlegues requestinng a message at the talk page (however, this feature is not implemented yet). But for admins, the Wizard should work right now. -- Rillke(q?) 20:35, 16 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great, thanks. --MichaelMaggs (talk) 21:34, 16 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
