Nationaldenkmal auf dem Kreuzberg
The Nationaldenkmal auf dem Kreuzberg / National monument on the Kreuzberg (means Cross mountain) in Berlin-Kreuzberg was designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and errected in 1821. It is a reminder of 12 battles in the Napoleonic Wars where the coalition of Prussia and Russia forces were successfull. Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz (remembering Paris, March 30, 1814) holds a little quadriga in her right hand to remind all that the quadriga from the Brandenburg Gate (in Berlin) was stolen by Napoleon I of France for 7 years before returning to Berlin. Today this little quadriga is lost. Charlotte of Prussia/Alexandra Feodorovna (Belle Alliance, June 18, 1815) wears all 12 statues as an embroidery upon her dress.
