Title edit

Moved to proper language (Hindi being administrative official) article title. gren 09:02, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

This should be about functionality. Almost nobody (amend that: nobody, period) out there is typing "Bharat" in Devanagari script when looking for India. Wikipedia is not governed by the Indian constitution and I have therefore been bold, redirected back to "India" and repaired double redirects. Long overdue, IMO. Why was this moved without discussion? It is not a question of constitution, it is an issue that names of galleries of countries should be in native names when possible. India does not belong to the English-speaking world, and commons (in difference to say en.wikipedia.org) is a multilingual wiki. Bharat is the name used officially in all indian languages, and devanagari is by far the most widely used script in India. --Soman 12:31, 16 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unfortunately, this is not an Indian site. It is used by worldwide users, most who are not Indian and do not refer to the nation as Bharat.Indianhilbilly 22:30, 3 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Fortunately this is not an English site either, and the policy here is that we use the native name when it's possible. Non-Indian users will find the page through redirects, so there's no problem about functionality. I'll be bold and re-rename it. Aaker 00:13, 29 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Why would Hindi be considered the proper language of India? Many would disagree. I suggest to move this article back to India, we can provide all 22 regional languages inside java script.

Thanks --Dineshkumar Ponnusamy (talk) 20:11, 28 July 2015 (UTC)Reply

Indian languages in headers edit

Hi, I don't think adding Indian languages in headers is a good solution. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:51, 15 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Ping: @Dineshkumar Ponnusamy:
I agree with you Yann, but if I would have said it at first point then there is a chance that people will come up with other invalid points, in order to avoid that I did this. Thanks for understanding it. --Dineshkumar Ponnusamy (talk) 06:58, 13 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
Return to "भारत / India" page.
