Talk:Featured Photographs in the Public Domain

Latest comment: 3 years ago by Adam Cuerden in topic Query

Hi, In what order are they listed here? If they are in chronological order, there should be sections for each year. I think many are missing. Regards, Yann (talk) 09:17, 25 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Yann: In November 2018, I used Petscan to perform an intersection between Category:Featured pictures and Category:Public domain (to some depth), excluding files with {{Artwork}}. I had to manually filter out paintings and drawings. The order is by File ID.
Rerunning the query, I see that files like File:Sander-pinguins.jpg were missed. Perhaps I didn't run the original query deep enough. Feel free to update (although the manual filtering of the paintings and drawings took quite a while). — hike395 (talk) 12:51, 26 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Hike395: Thanks, but you didn't answer to my question: are they in chronological order? If yes, there should be sections by years. Then I could add manually some missing files. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:12, 26 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Yann: Maybe you missed it --- the files are ordered by File ID, which I believe is monotonic in upload date. — hike395 (talk) 03:14, 27 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

edit

If this is excluding non-photographs, shouldn't this be named accordingly, e.g. "Featured photographs in the Public Domain" or "Photographic Featured Pictures in the Public Domain"? It does exclude a fair number of PD images as it is. Adam Cuerden (talk) 19:22, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
