That way of counting image notes is approximate only. Note numbering need not be contiguous, and need not start at 1 either. See e.g. File:A. Nevsky Cathedral in Warsaw (Aerial).jpg, which doesn't turn up in that category. With {{#ifexpr: {{{id|{{{1}}}}}} >= 10|[[Category:Images with 10+ annotations]]}} you'd catch more of these, but you'd also catch any image with a single note that has an id greater than or equal to 10. (If the same category is added several times to a page, the servers collapse that to one single category membership.) Lupo 20:44, 26 August 2009 (UTC)

Sort order

And why that? ImageNote is used only on image description pages, and images are displayed on category pages without the initial letter, so that there is no difference, AFAICT. --Mormegil (talk) 14:15, 20 September 2009 (UTC)

I do some monitoring of Category:Images with annotations for annotation vandalism. The category has {{CategoryTOC}} but at the moment all images are under letter F (for File:) I would like to fix that. --Jarekt (talk) 02:07, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Visible at Wikipedia ?

Could we make {{ImageNote}} with ID=1 visible displaying something like "This image has annotations visible at Commons"? Obviously, this doesn't make much sense at Commons, but everywhere else the image is being displayed. --  Docu  at 15:04, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

I don’t know… It seems to me this note would this be visible at Commons, which I think would be annoying. At least, it would need to be hidden on Commons by MediaWiki:Common.css, but wouldn’t it be better to arrange for a mechanism so that the image notes could be displayed on other wikis? (By using the respective JS on other wikis, or, even better, by integrating the annotation feature into MediaWiki proper (via some extension, possibly).) --Mormegil (talk) 14:28, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Since some days ago, images with notes show an ugly message. I use an image in my credit template. How can I use the image and hide the message?

Category:Images with 10+ annotations

If an image has 10+ annotations it's in this cat but it's also in the standard cat Category:Images with annotations. Shouldn't it be either or? --Denniss (talk) 10:19, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Category:Images with annotations is a maintenance category and they are usually "flat" categories. Category:Images with 10+ annotations was created to watch over most heavily annotated images; however although I created it I have not used it for monitoring for years. Do we still need it? The only purpose for it I can think of is to find good examples of well annotated images. --Jarekt (talk) 12:33, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Docu, this is generic annotation template added by a java script. There must be a better way to add "experimental categories" like Category:Equestrian statue (pixels: 378200) than adding to this generic template parameters only related to equestrian statues. May be a bot run that looks for ImageNotes with {{Equestrian statue}} template inside and adds appropriate categories? --Jarekt (talk) 12:59, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Before even evaluating how useful this could be, I wonder about {{{es|}}}, which is not passed to this template by your sample file. How is this supposed to work? And I am not sure what will happen when changing the image note, e.g. adding translations. -- Rillke^(q?) 16:21, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Indeed, changing the imagenote removes the parameter "es=y". If we keep the feature, we would need to fix that. --  Docu  at 12:20, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

The sample file just shows the categories. this second file would make use of the above addition. I think you need the annotation script to select the image reasonably efficiently, but if there is a way to do the same by bot, all the better.
