Template talk:PD-USGov-Interior-HABS

Latest comment: 12 years ago by Multichill in topic Template needs to be split

A bit more documentation on this would be VERY helpful. I'm just copying and pasting the reproduction number over as I use this template/liscense, as I find them, I hope I am doing it correctly. --W.marsh 23:03, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Create a maintenance category for templates used without parameter edit

{{Editprotected}}

Go to Template:PD-Archivesnormandie&action=edit and see the code I inserted there.

What I suggest is

  • to change {{{1}}} into
    {{{1|undefined}}}
  • to add in the bottom part of the template :
-->{{#if:{{{1|}}}||<small>Note : the reference identifier is marked here as "undefined". This template should be used with the reference identifier as parameter ({{PD-USGov-Interior-HABS|<reference identifier>}})</small>[[Category:PD-USGov-Interior-HABS used without ref parameter|{{PAGENAME}}]]}}.<!--

-->

This will list pictures with missing parameter into Category:PD-USGov-Interior-HABS used without ref parameter

Documentation on reference number? edit

So the only parameter this takes is a reference number. Is that the "DIGID", "CARD #", or what? Tedder (talk) 06:48, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Creator" reference edit

Is it possible to add a colon after "Survey number" at the end of this line of text?

*Creator: U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, [http://www.nps.gov/hdp/habs/ Historic American Buildings Survey]. Survey number HABS {{{1|undefined}}}

Another embellishment is a way to eliminate an extra "HABS" at the Survey number, if the user enters "HABS HI,12-HON,4-1" for example, as the reference identifier.

HABS is not worked on by NPS alone edit

Per my investigation as detailed at w:Wikipedia:Peer review/Silver Reef, Utah/archive2, HABS is not a project solely worked on by NPS. It is a "tripartite agreement between the American Institute of Architects, the Library of Congress, and the NPS".[1] There are members of the American Institute of Architects who have contributed to the project; they are not employees of the NPS nor federal employees by any means. The HABS photographs are in the public domain because of an agreement (Photo Specifications).

Furthermore, remove "| [[File:US-NationalParkService-ShadedLogo.svg|52px|link=|right]]" as it is no longer relevant (not a NPS work). Jappalang (talk) 02:24, 9 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Template needs to be split edit

In the current state the template combines several things:

  1. It's a license template (child of {{PD-USGov}})
  2. It's a source template (all images are from the HABS collection at the Library of Congress)
  3. It adds files to a topic category
  4. It contains a survey number (call number)

I rather split up these functions:

  1. Just add {{PD-USGov}} to the images (or a more specific one like {{PD-USGov-NPS}})
  2. Create a new source template like the ones shown at Commons:Partnership templates. This template should add the (flat) source category Category:Images from the Historic American Buildings Survey
  3. The images should be added directly to Category:Historic buildings in the United States or one of it's subcategories
  4. The call number should be moved to the source field of {{Information}}

What do you think? Multichill (talk) 13:50, 14 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Now change the template into {{HABS-source}} & {{PD-USgov}}. Category:Historic American Buildings Survey is currently draining and Category:Files from the Historic American Buildings Survey is filling. Category:Historic buildings in the United States was created and is now populated. I wonder if I should create county categories for Commons:Batch uploading/HABS. Will start talk at Category talk:Historic buildings in the United States. Multichill (talk) 20:55, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
