What about enabling CommonsHelper as a “keyword” for parameter 3 instead of [http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/commonshelper.php CommonsHelper]? The link generated by the template might then be //toolserver.org/~magnus/commonshelper.php. --Leyo 17:17, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

It now reads:

• {{transferred from|en.wikipedia|Magog the Ogre|CommonsHelper}} -> Transferred from en.wikipedia to Commons by Magog the Ogre using CommonsHelper.
• {{transferred from|en.wikipedia|Magog the Ogre|[//hello.org some other link]}} -> Transferred from en.wikipedia to Commons by Magog the Ogre using some other link.

@S099001: I created a sandbox version at {{Transferred from/sandbox}} using your suggestions in order to test them before I made the edit to the live version, and your suggested ccde does not exactly match the appearance you want. Here is an example of what your code produces:

Is that what you wanted? If you want output that looks like your example, instead of your suggestion of...

@RP88: Sorry, it should use "共享資源". If you are say about that space (punctuation), I don't know how to eliminate it, perhaps add "(ampersand)nbsp;" in front of "轉移"? If an English word in a Chinese sentence, somebody are add space for them.

@S099001: OK, I've updated the test code at Template:Transferred from/sandbox to use 轉移到共享資源 and to remove the space after 使用. Here is an updated example:

Suggested simplification

1. Instead of submitting parameter 2 and 4 to each one of the 33 subtemplates, where each one needs to construct the user link, it seems much better to create that link only once by the template, and to pass it then to the subtemplates so they can use it without any need to check it.
2. Currently it is not possible to use the template with a more complicated user link; the only possibilities are [[:User:xxx|xxx]] and [[:lc:User:xxx|xxx]]. With a very small expansion also this template will be able to use also complex user links as e.g

• [[User:xxx|yyy]] or short {{U|xxx|yyy}}: yyy
• [[User talk:xxx|xxx]] or short {{Ut|xxx}}: xxx
• [[User:xxx~commonswiki|xxx]] or short {{Uw|xxx}}: xxx
• [[User talk:xxx~commonswiki|xxx]] or short {{Uwt|xxx}}: xxx
• [[pt:User:example|example]] or short {{U|example||pt}}: example
• [[es:User talk:example|example]] or short {{Ut|example||es}}: example
• [[de:User:test|test]] & [[User:example|example]] or short {{Ud|test}} & {{U|example}} : test & example
• or all the numerous other possibilities tlo create a user link.

In some few cases it will be fine to have these additional possibilities, as many other templates e.g that mentioned in By.

The template will check for the [ "[" and then either pass parameter 2 as-it-is, or create an appropriate user link, like that

Simplification done

Some days ago this simplification was done, with some expansions like it was desribed above: only the main template uses parameter 4, 5, 6 together with parameter 2 to build the user name, which is then passed in ready format to the currently 36 subtemplates – none of them has anymore to investigate about the content of the parameter(s). If changes become necessary, only the main template will be affected, no translation becomes necessary. -- sarang♥사랑

@Sarang: I believe that the edits on August 4 broke the template:

@Hike395: Thank you for telling me! The problem with the translate tool is that I cannnot get a final test of alterations; I can check everything, but then I have to prepare the changes at Transferred from/i18n for the automatic translation; and when there at the final step an error or typo occurs it remains undetected, until the translation reveals it. Sorry, in spite of all the care I used an error happened. I fixed it (hopefully – again I cannot see the result!) and will try to trigger another automatic translation. The error is not too bad, so to live with it for some time, until the next translation task, will be a reasonable need. -- sarang♥사랑 04:50, 8 August 2021 (UTC)
