How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Sound Logo

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

@VGrigas (WMF): If I got "have attribution temporarily hidden from public view" right you want to have a bunch of logos on voted on by the community. However, until the final results are in nobody should see who the original author of the logo or the vote is.

If so I have to disappoint you since I have no idea how this could work. I don't even know if such a thing is possible at all in the ecosystem of Wikimedia since every action is logged and attributed to a specific author (be it the username or an IP).

@Grunpfnul: So wie die Linien verlaufen sieht es für mich eher nach so aus als wäre das Bild nicht so sehr in eine Richtung verdreht sondern als wäre die Perspektivkorrktur die besser Wahl. Die Frage die sich mir stellte war eher ob das 1882 eröffnete Gebäude wirklich so gerade ist oder ob es schlicht weg die Wirklichkeit verfälscht. Ich habe für die Perspektivkorrektur angenommen, dass die Bauteile soweit in der Waage und die Eckpfeiler der Dachkonstruktion im Lot (vermutlich sind sie das aber nicht).

Ich habe die neue Version mit Perspektivkorrektur und Staubentfernung hochgeladen. Danke jedenfalls für die Rückmeldung mit Beispielbildern.

Du hast da absolut recht: Tatsächlich hatte ich mich zuerst nur nach der obersten Bauwerkslinie orientiert und mir fiel erst im Nachgang die perspektivische Verzerrung auf, als ich die Linien eingezeichnet habe. Ich wollte aber nicht unbedingt da weiter drauf eingehen, weil ich Sorge hatte etwas zu schroff geklungen zu haben in der Wertung (sorry, falls es so rüberkam - war absolut nicht böse gemeint).

Nach Bauwerken darf man grundsätzlich nicht gehen, auch wenn eine Stahlkonstruktion eigentlich Genauigkeit vorgeben sollte: Ich habe mir vor Jahren den Spaß erlaubt einen Laserdistanzmesser zu kaufen, um innerhalb geschlossener Räumlichkeiten die möglichst genaue Mitte beim Fotografieren zu finden - war dann aber fast immer erstaunt darüber wie "schräg" manche Bauwerke dann doch sind. Man kommt fast nie um Korrekturen (und somit gewisse Realitätsabweichungen) herum. Um bei dem Beispiel zu bleiben und deine Aufnahme einzubeziehen: Die Türe zum Gewächshaus liegt auch nicht symmetrisch zum Weg - da hat dann der Landschaftsarchitekt einen beschwipsten Tag gehabt (oder die Gartenbauer).
