Encyclopedic image restoration is a workshop dedicated to providing quality image restorations for historic topics. These images don't have to be featured picture candidates. Submissions should be useful illustrations of important subjects. Please submit the best available version of the best available image.

This is an open workshop. Any Wikimedian is welcome to submit or fulfill restoration requests.

3. Darwin Online scan

Per comments at Commons:Deletion requests/Images from Darwin Online, this is a scan from Descent of Man (done at 800 dpi). Let me know what I should perhaps do differently. --dave pape 21:53, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
Got your message. I've also just done a first pass edit myself, at Image:Descent of Man 1874 - Fig 1 editDP1.png, for comparison - adjusted the levels to eliminate bleedthrough, and scaled down to 600 dpi. As long as there don't seem to be problems, I can start on more scans this week (although I may switch to the Gould images, as I have a possible source coming via interlibrary loan). --dave pape 15:25, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

How's this? Image:Descent of Man 1874 - Fig 1 editDP1a.png I'm not quite certain what you were looking for so I cleaned up areas that appeared to be artifacts of the scan. Could go through this in more detail if you need. Please advise. Durova 10:39, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
I'm not certain what I'm looking for either - just curious to see what can be done with it. Probably the main thing I think could stand improvement is to clean up the label letters.
Note that Descent of Man (A. L. Burt edition) now contains all the figures from the book I borrowed. I'll get to them gradually, but they're open for anyone else to start working on too. --dave pape 18:36, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

4. Lousy looking scan, historically somewhat notable photograph, oldest photo of a North American Indian. Both subject Peter Jones and photographers David Octavius Hill & Robert Adamson are of historical note. I'm not hoping for a silk purse from this sow's ear, but every bit helps. Image:PeterJonesByHillDavidsonInEuropeanStyleDress.jpg would probably serve as a good alternate. Thanks, WilyD 21:40, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

5. A beautiful poster with the Declaration of Independence of the USA, dated 1819. Unfortunately, the paper has stains and it's ragged on edges. Some details of the upper part of the engraving are missing entirely. --Alex:D (talk) 23:24, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

6. A detailed historical map of Great Falls from 1891. I'm not sure what is best for restorations, but I saved it as a grayscaled PNG file. JalalV (talk) 04:34, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

7. An absolutely beautiful panoramic drawing of Yellowstone National Park. I originally mistook it for a HDR image. Needs some cleaning and I'm not sure whether that white bit on the top right is supposed to be there. I had a go at it myself, but the results were...less than optimal. I plan on nominating the whole set a some point, after I clean up the other 3, which aren't in as bad shape. Sarcastic ShockwaveLover (talk) 07:16, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

8. After the amazing File:Operation Crossroads Baker Edit.jpg which depicts a conventional nuclear test, this photograph shows the explosion cloud created by Ivy Mike, one of the first Hydrogen Bombs. The picture is (obviously) of high historic significance and has a great scan quality with high resolution. However, there are many scratches and dust specks which should be removed. Overall, I believe this photo is important enough to warrant your attention as a restoration expert. I'd really love to see it patched up and subsequentially Featured, both on Commons and Wikipedia. 10. Hello, could you take look at this photo of Laurance Olivier. I already used it in his article in Turkish WP and I think it is a nice FP candidate (at least in Turkish WP). But cleanness is a little bit of a problem. Do you think it can be cleaned? I hope, you can give me a hand on this. Best contactCoriolis ende (talk) 00:44, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
