Briefing edit

Derived from the creation of the Wikimedia Iberocoop initiative in 2010, I received my first volunteer commission to find their identity. Iberocoop is an organization for Iberoamerican based Wikimedia chapters and affiliates. At that point the own Wikimedia identity was disperse and there was no a trademark identity manual. The idea behind the search for an identity of Iberocoop was to propose a fresh idea, and that could be liked and approved to the majority of iberocoopians. A big challenge, in fact.

Process edit

I pitched two simple logos without any connection to Wikimedia organization style and and both drafts were discarded:

My next idea take more or less two weeks, and my concept included the next considerations:

  • Latin America is color and the exploitation of a colorful concept will make sense for sure.
  • I need to consider a collective element of unity.
  • I can't take an specific element just for a region but for all the area including Spain, Portugal and Italy, founding members.

Rational edit

The Iberocoop logo is a round globe surrounded by abstract color elements which represents the work between different people, but also greetings and narrowing of hands as well as waves that when crisscrossing results in different colors. The logo considered all the colors of the flags of the countries of the founding members.
