About me edit

My view on the world: a Sigma 105 mm macro lens

I usually contribute to the German Wikipedia, where I'm mostly involved with voting in and archiving of KEB (candidates for excellent images, roughly equivalent to FPC), but I also sometimes write articles on the subjects I take pictures of. On Commons I contribute to QIC, VIC and FPC (in this order) where I normally review at least as many images as I nominate. I also organize species galleries and tag images with erroneous ids for renaming.

My current equipment is what would probably called medium-class and consists of

  • a Nikon D90 DSLR
  • a Sigma 18-200 mm F3,5-6,3 DC lens
  • a Sigma 105 mm F2,8 EX DG macro lens and
  • an Alpha 2500 tripod

The large majority of images is taken with the macro lens, however, and I rarely use the tripod because I find it too cumbersome in the field. Until October 2009 I used a Ricoh R10 compact camera.

I usually take pictures of all things small, mostly insects and flowers and combinations thereof. When I return home from a trip, I have fun identifying the depicted specimens and am steadily accumulating field identification books. I'm most experienced with the photography and identifation of damsel-, dragon- and butterflies, but I'm getting good at grasshoppers and bugs too.
