First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

 

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hello Beethoven9, thanks for working on this wiki in your language. We updated the list of priority translations and I write you to let you know. The language used by this wiki (or by you in your preferences) needs about 100 translations or less in the priority list. You're almost done!
 
To add or change translations for all wikis, please use translatewiki.net, the MediaWiki localisation project.

Please register on translatewiki.net if you didn't yet and then help complete priority translations (make sure to select your language in the language selector). Lige til almindelig orientering så jeg har flyttet nogle af de jernbanekategorier du har oprettet, f.eks. fra Category:HørveVærslev til Category:Hørve-Værslev Jernbane. Dels er det dårligt dansk at skrive to eller flere egennavne ud i et, og dels siger det ikke rigtig noget om, hvad kategorierne dækker over. Jeg regner med at flytte flere kategorier på samme måde, men jeg tager det i portioner, så din overvågningsliste ikke drukner.

I øvrigt vil jeg gerne benytte anledningen til at rose dig for dit arbejde med at dokumentere det danske jernbanenet. Det er sikkert sundt, at den kategoristruktur, jeg har opbygget gennem 4½ år, bliver gennemset af en anden, og jeg synes du har haft en heldig hånd med dine flytninger. Det var nok for smart af mig at lave kategorier ved bare at sætte to endestationer sammen til ét ord.
Det er en god løsning med Langå-Struer-banen (former parts), så sammenhængen med den eksisterende bane fremgår af kategorinavnet. Den model kan også bruges andre steder, hvor en eksisterende bane har haft et andet tracé:
  • LaurbjergLangå og StevnstrupNederHornbæk kan slås sammen i Aarhus-Randers-banen (former parts).
  • Bjergbanen og HarboøreKnopperThyborøn kan slås sammen i Lemvigbanen (former parts).
  • NørreNebelTarm og NørreNebelNymindegab kan slås sammen i Nebelbanen (former parts).
  • AalborgFrederikshavn‎ kan flyttes til Vendsysselbanen (former parts).
  • FarumSlangerup‎ kan flyttes til Slangerupbanen (former parts).

Det navn er entydigt og sprogligt OK; det er gængs i jernbanelitteraturen og formodentlig også det navn, der kendes af folk, som husker banen eller i øvrigt interesserer sig for den, så det ville være en forringelse at ændre det til Aarhus-Hammel-Thorsø Jernbane. Jeg kan se at jeg ikke har udnyttet disse sekundære banenavne fuldt ud - NakskovKragenæs kunne have heddet Kragenæsbanen, og MariboBandholm kunne have heddet Bandholmbanen.

Kære Beethoven9

Jeg er billedredaktør ved det topografiske bogværk Trap Danmark, der i disse år udkommer for 6. gang med informationer, fortællinger og beskrivelser af Danmark. Udgaven udkommer i 34 bind samt et digitalt univers. Bind 13, der bl.a. beskriver Hedensted Kommune udkommer primo 2020. Se evt. www.trap.dk.

Vi er i gang med at billeddække beskrivelsen af Hedensted Kommune og herunder Uldum, og i den forbindelse er jeg faldet over dit billede af Poul Martin Møllers mindesten foran Uldum Præstegård.

Jeg vil rigtig gerne bruge billedet i vores bog og digitale udgivelse og håber derfor på en clearing af brug fra dig.

Jeg arbejder i henover julen, da jeg er lidt presset på deadloine og håber derfor at høre fra dig, hvis du har tid og mulighed for dette snarest.

Hej Grethe, tak fordi du spørger. Mit billede må ligesom alle andre, der er uploadet til Wikimedia Commons, anvendes - populært sagt - af hvem som helst når som helst til hvad som helst. Så det kan kun være et spørgsmål om kreditering, og jeg ønsker ikke personlig kreditering, da Beethoven9 bare er et pseudonym. Skriv bare "Wikipedia" som kilde.

Det undrer mig noget at du tilføjer Category:Bevtoft Kirke til Category:Strandelhjørn. Personligt synes jeg ikke den på nogen måde hører hjemme der. --Hjart (talk) 12:01, 29 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Strandelhjørn er en landsby i Bevtoft Sogn og har ikke egen kirke, så Bevtoft Kirke er Strandelhjørns kirke. Den konstruktion har vi mange steder, for et sogn kan jo sagtens rumme flere byer og landsbyer end bare kirke(lands)byen. Venlig hilsen, Beethoven9.

Hej, en IP har ændret på wikidata at HH-SkoleHøjskoleforeningensSalAnnaAncher1.JPG og -2.JPG er af Anna E. Munch og ikke Anna Ancher, kunne ikke umiddelbart se ud fra weilbachs oplysninger på kunstindeks danmark eller skolens side om det er den ene eller anden, ved du tilfældigvis hvor det står?
