Image deletion warning Image:Tanforan Seabiscuit statue.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Start small, close obvious deletion discussions. Get bolder with experience. Pretty soon Commons will have ten thousand images! (giggles, flees) ;)

Oops, sorry about misplacing that. Durova 21:59, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

Recategorization

Thanks for the note about recategorizing the photos I've uploaded. Frankly, I find the categories here quite confusing and am never really sure into what categories I should be putting things. I'll take a look at the changes you made and will try to do better in the future. -Sanfranman59 18:46, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, when I saw that image seemed that the images have the same resolution (I've checked a lot of images with the same problem and they have always the same resolution). I've deleted your image only because it was almoust un-used while the other was used in more than 6 projects. By the way, you can upload your image replacing the previous one with another with better resolution (as I did). Delete contribution

I have three photos that I contributed that I would like to delete. How can I go about doing that? Ludahai 09:14, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

I no longer can be assurred that I have the authorization to make these contributions due to a situation that I can't get into because of potential litigation. Ludahai (talk) 01:52, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
Where should I put that template? On the mail file page or in the discussion. Thanks. Ludahai (talk) 05:11, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Translation request

Actually, it was Nyttend that brought your request to my attention [1]. Can you upload these images and let me know the links to them? I can directly edit the summary afterwards. OhanaUnitedTalk page 03:30, 18 June 2008 (UTC)

Just do whatever suits you best (but make sure you tell me which method you are going to use). My "email user" function is enabled, so you can send those link urls to me privately. OhanaUnitedTalk page 18:40, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Ok, the words on first picture is a small verse of a poem, but doesn't reflect where it is taken. And the second picture doesn't have any historical value. The words said "Moonlight Mall". No offense, but are you taking these photos without realizing that some are just promotional tools or signs but doesn't hold any significant historical values? OhanaUnitedTalk page 21:13, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

Category change

Greetings. Why did you remove the only category directly connecting this image with its author? Scan's of the book's text would not be the works of that illustrator, yet they would still be in Category:L'Armee Française (book). Copyright violations

You accuse me of uploading images that are copyright violations, regarding spanish teams´ american football helmets. I must say I had drawn the images myself and didn´t take them from anybody. Regarding the logos included in the helmets, none of those teams has registered them a trademarks, as far as I know. Therefore, I don´t think there was anything wrong with them, but it´s all right if you decide otherways and won´t draw and upload anymore of them.--Banderas (talk) 15:45, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Image deletion

Hello :) As you were the one who marked my images for deletion in the first place, I decided to come to you... I made a decision to replace those images (concerning Aquashow) with other ones which were shot by me. It's easier and will spare a lot of headaches to everybody :) This being said, I'd appreciate it if you could delete my current images, as I don't know if I can do it myself. Here's the link for the page of the deletion request: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Images_of_Silvia-pco Thanks.

Watching that but can I suggest trying a pt admin (Kved or similar) to see whther they thing these are commercial/encyclopaedic? Get back to me if I can help, cheers --Herby talk thyme 07:44, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Hum, well - call it a sixth sense but other than obvious Commons work most of the rest of my time is spent dealing with cross wiki link placement. Equally I try not to judge what non en wikis may think is good/bad etc. However given "opening hours" & "admission prices" on the page (my pt is not that bad :)) I'm going for the fact it is worth getting another opinion? Cheers --Herby talk thyme 16:08, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
It is me but I do "scope" then "licensing". I know other would not agree but.... Maybe see where it goes but feel free to nudge me if you need me. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 16:12, 13 August 2008 (UTC)
Fair enough - my view would be that pt wp see it as an inappropriate article the Commons offerings might not be encyclopaedic either. I'll happily ask Kved (I've done similar before) but it will be tomorrow now for me. Cheers --Herby talk thyme 17:03, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

Basketball jerseys copyright violations

Hello! Recently you had marked two images that I had photographed and uploaded to WikiCommons as "copyright violation". I could see how you arrived to that conclusion due to the fact that the team's copyrighted logos are featured in the photograph. However the logos are only on the front side of the jersey. Therefore, could the photographs be considered as acceptable free images if I were to remove the current pictures and replace them with only the reverse side of the jersey? I'd appreciate your response at your earliest convenience. Thanks!--Amineshaker (talk) 15:53, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I noticed you added a "fair use" tag to Image:001instantthisbillboard.jpg, which on Commons automatically puts it up for speedy deletion. Perhaps you're right, but I'd suggest you list it at Commons:Deletion requests. (This may be a copyright problem, but I'm not sure how old an image of a billboard would have to be and how much design originality would need to be on it for relevent copyright laws myself. ) Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 21:07, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Candidates and elections

Hello. Re Image:JohnMcCainXavier08HowieluvzusFrontA.jpg, I disagree that including "Category:United States presidential election, 2008" was "overcategorized". I presume you mean because image is already in category:John McCain, who in turn is listed as a 2008 candidate. IMO, it is not redundant because it is an actual image from the 2008 campaign, whereas many images of McCain are completely unconnected with it and some taken decades seperated from the event. Other thoughts? Cheers, -- Infrogmation (talk) 22:40, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Arizona Cactus Garden

Exactly. Any individual could be a purebred species collected in the wild, a hybrid descended from two wild species that were planted next to each other years ago, or a long-forgotten cultivar from a long-forgotten nursery. Agaves are especially troublesome this way - there have been "species" identified on the basis of plants that have been grown in Europe for a century or more, where the cold and wet makes them deformed, and people who go back to the reputed collection sites in Mexico don't find anything like them in habitat. I went through the Arizona garden myself last year, it was a real magical mystery tour, disappointing as a source of species photos for WP. Stan Shebs (talk) 23:10, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Decategorizing the Yosemite painting

Heh, no problem -- you did it so fast I thought I had just forgotten it originally, so I added it (back, as it turned out). ;-) Thanks. Carl Lindberg (talk) 01:16, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

numeric search results

Your report that the numbers in the title of the image eventually make it into search results made me feel kind of warm and nice inside, as if my beliefs in software functioning correctly was being restored.

So warm and nice inside that I hesitate to try this myself in the case that I become disappointed by it not actually working as reported.

Pissing people off seems to be a reason and motivation to do things here -- and that is the reason I asked you that weird question at the bored administrators chat page. Not literally peeing on people but angering people who actually care about their work or what this wiki should be doing. I have not found a way to make this cease and additionally, I cannot work on or learn something that I do not care about.

I have been told now that speaking politely or (not caring about what I did) would have been rewarded with possible employment opportunities now for the last five or six years. It is a standard to measure people with that should have failed years/decades ago if the species were moving forward. In a real life application, it is as if vandals who were stripping a car or destroying someones home or trashing the enclosure to a persons business were encouraged to do this with extreme politeness and this is what matters.

I have no recommendation to you for how to make this stop. I can only recommend that you remain loyal to whatever ideals that made you care about your contribution here. Five or six years later I still have my dignity in my own mind and to the best of my memory, I was never part of a group who while communicating with a polite language destroyed the works of anyone who cared about something. I suspect that this will be difficult to live with eventually. -- carol (talk) 13:31, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
