Sorry to trouble you, But I think I have category "File:Uncertain expected value.jpg" and other pictures, for they are in "Category: Uncertainty Theory", and I have add "[ [Category:Uncertainty Theory] ]" at the bottom of the editting page. Exclude meta-categories

Hi! Please ensure that the bot does not place files into meta-categories (categories tagged with {{MetaCat}}, {{By country category}} and by year category), as it did here, here and here to name just a few examples. Any file placed in such categories is severely miscategorised. Either improve the logic to find a viable subcategory or use a suitable parent category (e.g. Category:Racecar drivers from Belgium or Category:Racecar drivers rather than Category:Racecar drivers by country). I don't think all of them should be excluded. Personally I prefer to find lake images in Category:Lakes by country rather than Category:Lakes, as the first category is closer to the categories where they should eventually be sorted into. -- User:Docu at 09:21, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

The bot will place images in the most specific category. If an <topic> by <country category doesn't exist (for example Category:Basketball players from Peru), the images will end up in the category above it. If the category is created eventualy one of the bots will move the images to it (if the country is known). So no, I won't change the bot. Multichill (talk) 11:31, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Category:Racecar drivers from Belgium has existed since September 2007, yet File:Jerome d'Ambrosio.jpg was placed in Category:Racecar drivers by country on 1 December 2009. Is this because the bot is unable to match en:Category:Belgian racecar drivers to Category:Racecar drivers from Belgium? I maintain that the bot is behaving incorrectly, as it is not following the instructions of the metacat template: "This category should only contain subcategories. There are a lot of examples like that – enough that the bot should probably have logic for mapping nationality to country. Even if it doesn't, en:Category:Belgian racecar drivers has a Commons cat template linking to the corresponding category here, so making the connection should really be quite easy. —LX (talk, contribs) 14:39, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

The category (on enwiki) used {{Commons cat}} and not {{Commonscat}}. I wondered if that could give CommonSense problems so I changed the link on en-wiki and it seems that it helped the bot. If that is the case maybe we could get that fixed. --MGA73 (talk) 21:58, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

I guess the part I don't understand in this particular case is why the country isn't known. I thought the bot looked at the categories of the Wikipedia articles using the file and tried to map those categories to categories here (using, for example, commons cat templates in those categories). The way I would have expected it to work is: noting that File:Jerome d'Ambrosio.jpg is used in en:Jérôme d'Ambrosio, which is in en:Category:Belgian racecar drivers, which is linked to Category:Racecar drivers from Belgium, the image would be placed in this category.

I think that you underestimate the depth and the difficulty on entering and filtering the various paths (article name --> article categories, for each of those categories check if a commonscat category matches one of the possible metacats, such as "racecar drivers by country". --Foroa (talk) 17:50, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

In the general case, I absolutely do understand what you mean by using the specific country category if it is known. I am not disputing that images should be placed in the specific country category if it is known. However, if it is not known, what should be used according to the meta category instructions is the parent category, not the intermediate meta category. The meta category templates give two options, neither of which includes placing files in the intermediate category. It does not list any exceptions. I hope it is true because I've never been impressed by CommonsSense; I was under the impression that the Multichill bot development yielded far better results in terms of category reduction. But the more logic one has in the bots, the harder it is to understand why it doing what it does and it is much more difficult to pinpoint errors. Don't be surprised to see that it works with {{Commons cat}} but not with {{Commonscat}} (or the other way round). --Foroa (talk) 17:50, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

I fail to see the advantage of putting a file into "race drivers by country" rather than "race drivers". (@Docu: Maybe you can explain that.) But to me there are a least three disadvantages. 1) Files may be overlooked. 2) It increases the number of cats you have to maintain manually. 3) For example for buildings there are more classifications than just "by country". But if the file is already in the "by country" cat people will just specify the country leaving out other categories like "by time" or "by style". I prefer they end up the right place :-) Many categories that should be "empty" uses {{MetaCat}} and then you get a warning here Category:Non-empty meta categories if too many images are put into it. --MGA73 (talk) 21:28, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

Add to blacklist

Categories in the images page

I have added the categories, when I have downloaded them. The categories are seen at the bottom of each page. When I click at the name of each category there, the page of the corresponding category is opened. What is wrong? --Zara-arush (talk) 12:14, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

I do not know how to add the painters to be seen at the Catory pages:

Category:Painters from Armenia

Category:20th century painters from Russia

Category:People by alphabet

These categories are at the image files pages, but the names of the painters are not seen in the lists of people at the categories pages. How can I add them there? --Zara-arush (talk) 20:57, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

If you want to make a new category just add "[[Category:Name of the painter]]" to the bottom of one of the images the painter did and save the page. Then the category should show up on the bottom of the image as red. Then click the red link and type in the text you want to be on the category page and add the three categories above to the page and save. Then the category has been made and should show up in the three categories you linked to. Then you can add this new category to the other images the painter did. Normally we do not make categories if there is only 1 or 2 images to go in the category. --MGA73 (talk) 21:27, 18 December 2009 (UTC)

Phantom categorization notice

For some odd reason, CategorizationBot sent me a notification dated 10:37, 31 December[2] to add categories to File:I95 on South Street Bridge.jpg, although I had already added "Category:Roads in Philadelphia" to the image when it was initially uploaded at 19:57, 30 December.[3] --Apollo1758 (talk) 19:35, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
