Hello, Caumasee!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

thank you for reminding me. it was in a hurry, the article in German is written but not published, and category forgotten but also kind of useless if not existing. I will have to find out about creating new categories because it seems to go to the wrong place sometimes - I dont't understand the structure yet.Caumasee (talk) 11:13, 30 July 2010 (UTC)

Uncategorizing filesEdit

Hi Caumasee,

Please create a gallery if you would like just one file of each. Categories are not suitable for this. Thus please don't remove files from categories for this reason [1].

BTW, I like your additions to Category:Caumasee.  Docu  at 21:44, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Ich habe diesen Hinweis hier erst jetzt gesehen. Schau bitte mal im Forum vorbei. Dort habe ich das Entkategorisieren zur Debatte gestellt. --Leyo 12:16, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

Your recent uploads: CategorisationEdit

Hi Caumasee, please do not categorize your uploads (an example of your recent activity):

Category:Mountains of Switzerland +
Category:Lakes of Switzerland +
Category:Lakes in the canton of Graubünden

Please save time and capacity on commons by categorizing:

Category:Lakes in the canton of Graubünden (and for example Category:Mountains in the canton of Graubünden)

Please use as far as possible the category of the regarding city/town/village or district (if there's no category), or, a localized better 'fitting' i.e. the 'most fitting"' category(ies), and, do not add - in addition - the categories of the city, state and country, too.

For further information on categories please read Commons:Categories referring to an accurate categorisation, simplifying your further uploads and categorisation in general. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the commons:help desk.

Thank you for your assistance, Roland 01:29, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hallo Caumasee. Hast du dieses alte Werbeplakat selbst abfotografiert? Falls ja, wo genau? Ev. kann Panoramafreiheit zur Anwendung gebracht werden. --Leyo 21:42, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

--Leyo 21:45, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
