Old railway pictures edit

Many of your recent uploads have an high resolution version which we might as well have. If you use Magnus' tool, you will get the high resolution version. (Or you can do it by hand by selecting the "more sizes" link at Geograph - you are logged in to Geograph aren't you?) — RHaworth (Talk | contribs) 16:49, 23 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up. The "More Sizes" link wassn't obvious on my display, being pretty well off the screen to the right. My brain is hurting. I've spent the morning trying to find an efficient way of working with the necessary cross checks to avoid errors. Clearly we dont want to have duplicate images. I must say some of the images at maximum size appear to be a bit grainy Chevin (talk) 13:27, 24 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

File:En-kedleston.ogg edit

In this file you pronounce 'Kedleston' with a distinct /-les-/. Could you please state your source for this pronunciation? (The Oxford guide to the pronunciation of place names has /-lst-/) Thanks, Boles Shikmim (talk) 00:50, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's the way I and everyone I know has pronounced it for the last seventy-odd years Chevin (talk) 11:00, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

PS: I've just discovered John Maidment's Blog Chevin (talk) 11:51, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

PPS: Do you mean the BBC Pronouncing Dictionary of British Names wich is published by the OUP? Chevin (talk) 12:42, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, this is the book I ment. But I uppose local pronunciation is a better reference than a dictionary. Thanks for the link! Boles Shikmim (talk) 07:05, 10 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Monmouth Troy image edit

Conversation is brewing at File talk:Monmouth Troy Station 2028361 1dd6938f.jpg on what should be done with the correct image. I have a brief explanation of what is going on at the bottom of my talk page (follow the link in my signature) because everything is getting a bit messy with edits everywhere. Something abnormal happened during my move of this file - the image has disappeared and I can't find any log of what has happened. I've asked assistance here. I've also downloaded a copy of the file and can re-upload it any time, but I am curious to learn what happened and how to resolve it properly, thus waiting. Sorry for inconvenience - never seen such a glitch before. Materialscientist (talk) 07:58, 3 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

OK No problem. I wasn't expecting so quick a response anyway. :-) I hope Ben Brooksbank hasnt made any other changes. I dont want to go through and check all 3400 of them Chevin (talk) 08:52, 3 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
This seems to be a rare wikimedia software bug. I have no idea when it will be brought up to the right person at the wikimedia foundation, and thus uploaded a copy into File:St Boswells station geograph-2328602 by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg. If something bad happens, like Ben Brooksbank decides to correct information in thousands of images on geograph.org.uk, then do not rush to correct this manually on wikimedia commons - ask help and someone will write an automated script/bot for this task. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 05:17, 4 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Weymouth Station geograph-4069601-by-Ben-Brooksbank.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

No required license templates were detected at this file page. Please correct it, or if you have any questions please check my FAQ or contact me on my talk page. Yours sincerely, Jarekt (talk) 04:06, 1 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Global account edit

Hi Chevin! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 19:47, 14 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
