File:Bataillon des Vélites de Turin de la Garde Impériale.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

File:Heavy Cavalry & Cambrai Band Badge.jpg

File:Heavy Cavalry & Cambrai Band Badge.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Copyright tag

Hey there @Creuzbourg: , your 10 million messages about the wrong copyright tags actually woke me up this morning, so thank you I really did need it ha ha. But speaking of, I noticed the copyright tags were incorrect in a few ways, notable: 1. The images were actually published by a German and in Germany 2. The images were not American publications, only in an "American book" 3. The images were published in/before 1945 and since +70 years (under 134 Satz2 UrhG German copyright law, being 2015) these are in the public domain. 4. Therefore, with this in mind does this mean that this tag is the correct version:

This work of bildende Kunst (visual art) or photography was published in Germany before the Law on Copyrights and Neighboring Rights (UrhG) came into effect on January 1, 1966. It does not indicate its author and was published by a legal entity under public law (§ 5 KUG; for details see Wikipedia:Bildrechte). Therefore according to § 134 Satz 2 UrhG, copyright expires 70 years after publishing.

Coldstreamer20 (talk) 15:54, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

You still need a proper US tag to have them on Wikimedia Commmons. It does not matter if the images were actually published by a German and in Germany, and that they are in the public domain in Germany. What is the name of that German book you are referring to? Creuzbourg 14:38, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
There isn't a German book, it's a German artist who published them. Those images are from the German publications by Herbert Knòtel (who passed in 1963, and published these images in 1945 and prior, after the Battle of Berlin many of his works were lost and anything afterwards wasn't included in my uploads here). The images were then used in a book, BUT NOT MADE FOR THAT BOOK (sorry for the caps just wanted to make it clear), which is now the famed and my favourite uniforms book: John R. Elting & Herbert Knötel's Napoleon Uniforms (Volumes I–IV). Hope that answers your question. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 14:46, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
When and where was the Elting book published? Creuzbourg (talk) 15:55, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
So, the images were published between 1936/7 and 1945, the book was published compiling the information in 4 volumes from 1993–2000. The book contained the images published between the years I gave you (1936–1945), and were grouped in the later years. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 15:58, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
Its hard to find a US tag that fits. Its either:
This work was never published prior to January 1, 2003, and is currently in the public domain in the United States because it meets one of the following conditions:
  • its author died before 1954;
  • the death date of its author is not known, and it was created before 1904;
  • it is an anonymous work, a pseudonymous work, or a work made for hire, and it was created before 1904.

The above provisions are contained in 17 U.S.C. § 303. See also this page for more information.

Which does not fit. Or:

The author died in 1963, so this work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 60 years or fewer.

This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published (or registered with the U.S. Copyright Office) before January 1, 1929.

Which was my original complaint. Or:

For background information, see the explanations on Non-U.S. copyrights.
Note: This tag should not be used for sound recordings.

Which I do not think fits either, since Knoetel had only been dead for 33 years in 1996 . Creuzbourg (talk) 14:02, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Uhm, your dates are wrong Knötel died in 1963, not 1996. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 14:58, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
The URRA date is 1996. Knötel died in 1963, as I repeatedly states above.Creuzbourg (talk) 13:53, 24 January 2022 (UTC)

Hello Coldstreamer20.

You have uploaded one or more files that are copyright violations. You have done so despite requests from editors not to do so, and despite their instructions. See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter useful.

This is your last warning. The next time you upload a file that violates copyright, you will be blocked. Please leave me a message if you have further questions.

In addition, I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than using the automatic Nominate for deletion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests), please remember to follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:24, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Ah, ok I I thought it was the same tag since both are <nowiki>{{Delete}}</nowiki>, I'll take note for that in the future, Cheers. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 14:56, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:7ème Compagnie de Commandement et de Transmissions.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Copyright check

Hello there and @Melbguy05: would you mind making sure I got the copyright correct on this image please: British Armed Forces in Germany 1976–2000, Warrior IFV. Cheers! Coldstreamer20 (talk) 23:38, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Coldstreamer20: Unfortunately, this image should not have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons:
1) You are not the creator or the owner of the photograph, so you can not grant any use under the Cc-by-4.0. 2) It is clearly stated on the site where you got the image from : © IWM CT 1212, i.e. Imperial War Museum claims copyright. 3) According to the copyright policy of the IWM, they only allow non-commercial use. In order to upload to Wikimedia Commons commercial use has to be allowed. 4) Sometimes institutions claims copyright that they do not own, but this is not the case here. In this case, the creator is stated as a British Army official photographer, and the image was taken in the early 1980s. The British government releases official works, but only photographa taken prior to 1 June 1957. See Template:PD-UKGov.
I suggest you request that the image shall be deleted. Best wishes, Creuzbourg (talk) 15:49, 20 February 2022 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for checking, I wanted to make sure I didn't keep uploading and they would have been copyrighted. I read the whole page regarding the CC-by-4.0 but I didn't quite fully understand the "non-commercial part", so I wanted to have it checked here first.. Thanks, I'll request a deletion now. Categories?

Hey there @R'n'B, I noticed your bot @RussBot was going around on my recent uploads for U.S. Army Reserve regiments. Obviously no issue, but I noticed for instance, instead of "Or in heraldry" it is replaced by "Or (yellow in heraldry)". So I was wondering if I was adding the wrong cats and can fix them for future uploads, or is the bot just set to do that normally? I know (technically) "Or" isn't a specifically heraldic colour, so the term "yellow in heraldry" makes sense, but is that not the same as "Or in heraldry"? Thanks for any help. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 14:24, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Any time you add a category that is redirected to another title, the bot will change it automatically (unless the page is protected or there is some other issue that prevents the edit). For example Category:Or in heraldry is redirect, so the bot automatically edits any page placed in that category. Category redirects work a bit differently than redirects in any other namespace, so there's no easy way to know whether a particular category is a redirect except by actually opening up the page and looking at it. --R'n'B (talk) 14:43, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
So, would it be ok for simplicity sake to keep doing "Or in heraldry", and the bot does it automatically? Or (pun not intended) just do the longer "Or (yellow in heraldry)" cat? Coldstreamer20 (talk) 14:46, 1 August 2022 (UTC)
The bot has not yet complained to me about its workload :-) so I think it is fine for you to continue using the redirected category. --R'n'B (talk) 17:59, 1 August 2022 (UTC)

Fuzzy

Hi there @Noclador, I'm working on re-finishing a lot of your old U.S. Army graphics. I just finished the File:28th Infantry Division Full Structure.png. However, when comparing to yours: File:28th US Infantry Division - Organization 2021.png, I noticed yours seems a little more, uhm.. Crisper? The colours seem to be better in yours and the text is more crisp compared to mine. Can I ask what opacity you use for the colours and words in Photoshop? Thanks for any help! Banners and Such

Hi there @Bannerman3, I was looking at some of your changes, and noticed we're in the same (sort) of line of work. I was wondering if you'd be interested in re-creating some badges which I had originally wanted to create, but lack the full experience. Also if you'd be able to help me to re-create some simple ones to learn off of you as well, that would be awesome! Coldstreamer20 (talk) 23:35, 13 August 2022 (UTC)

Updates

Hey there @Noclador, I wanted to ask rather than continue just so I know your view on this. As you may (or may not) know, the United States Army is going through major organisational reforms, especially in the divisional area. So, I plan on updating the graphis you've made or add new ones for the current divisions. Therefore, I wanted to make sure you were ok with the updates, and if not I can upload a different version with the 2022 date changes. I've only done one update so far as you can see here: File:1st US Cavalry Division - Organization 2021.png. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 17:38, 23 November 2022 (UTC)

I know about the US Army doing a major overhaul of division organizations. I already created the new graphics for the future organizations and am only waiting for the release of official documents or the army websites to be updated to upload these graphics. And I reverted your overwrite of my graphics, because first the quality of your work is lower than mine (I don't know why the icons become smudged when you use them), your graphic has erroneous icons, there are errors in the current units under the brigades, and because your graphic isn't the new organization of the 1st Cavalry Division, but just the current intermediate step on the way to the new Penetration Division organization: i.e. the entire engineer brigade and protection brigade is missing, the extended range artillery battalion is missing, etc. Please do not overwrite my graphics and stop adding incomplete/erroneous graphics. Thanks for uploading File:Prince Gaston d'Orléans.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Prince Gaston d'Orléans.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Metadata

Hello there Mr @Yann, I was uploading some of my pictures I took during out big paintball game in May, and will have more this weekend with our new one. But I noticed some images (for example: File:Liberty Paintball 2023 Zombie Invasion Big Game 01.jpg) doesn't contain metadata, while this one: File:Liberty Paintball 2023 Zombie Invasion Big Game 12.jpg does? I was wondering if there is something I can do to fix this issue? Thanks for any help! Coldstreamer20 (talk) 18:37, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

Quick update, sorry for the tag I know some people don't like that. Apparently I fixed the issue, but not sure how. I just re-uploaded the image after a quick edit using the 'Save as' option instead of 'Save'. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 18:40, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

Update

Hello Mr @Buckshot06, thought you might want to know (if you're not aware already), that G6 CEG has been formed officially. (G6 Cyber & Electro Magnetic Activities Effects Group). See here[1] on page 42 (44 on the interactive online version) titled '21 Sig Regt (EW) Resubordination to G6 DEMA effects Gp'. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 18:38, 20 August 2023 (UTC) Coldstreamer20 (talk) 18:38, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

Hey Coldstreamer I appreciate you updating me. Thanks!!

Hey again @Buckshot06, just one more quick thing. During my time away obviously I haven't been doing nothing, and have been working on the National Guard's structure (US National Guard for reference). Still updating and fixing as changes are made, but if you want to contribute feel free: User:Coldstreamer20/National Guard. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 02:37, 29 August 2023 (UTC)

Neither references 74 or 79 substantiate 34th Infantry Division being permanently placed under the command of V Corps. Buckshot06 (talk) 02:16, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
Fixed, added the archive link to the website from last year. Also, that other reference is in regard to the planned structure, not the shift. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 03:26, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
HQ V Corps cannot give orders to 34th Inf Div in the same way as any active Div HQ or brigade in Europe. Much negotiation would have to go on with DA and NGB before components of the division could embark for Europe. I would strongly advise you to put 34th Inf Div back with all the other NG divisions, with a note at its entry that it is "aligned" with V Corps. Buckshot06 (talk) 04:12, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
So, I suppose I should have explained. That page is the “aligned structure”. Hence why the MEBs are under the divisions and such. Now, for standard ops and ADMIN, you’d be correct. Coldstreamer20 (talk) 11:49, 8 September 2023 (UTC)
Well you need to come up with a term for "aligned structure" which I think really translates to "ARNG assignments upon full mobilization," because that implies a total near-NATO-WP "World War III" mobilization of the U.S. Army, which isn't even happening as the war in Ukraine goes on. The leaks from March this year if I remember rightly only meant that the corps in Europe was supervising five brigade combat teams, none RC. Buckshot06 (talk) 02:01, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
So I see where we're getting mixed up now.. When I'm referring to aligned, I'm referring to the official National Guard (and the headquarters I've talked to) regarding 'Alignment for Training', simply known as 'Alignment' or 'Operational Alignment'. This differs from 'Administrative Alignment' or as we know from the British Army, 'Administrative Control'. Now, in the simplest terms possible, alignment for training means that for operations that unit is assigned to that formation (for example the 86th Infantry BCT is part of the 42nd Infantry Division), for training and operations. So, the 34th Infantry Division rather than being aligned with Forces Command, is now directly 'aligned' with V Corps, meaning its units will now regularly deploy to Europe for training, etc. This is not the same as say the British Army in 1989 where there is '(to BAOR)', etc. Hope that clears it up, I'll also include two links to publications that could help also. Btw, this doesn't just apply to the National Guard, it also works for the Army Reserve and the regular army (for example the Contracting Support Brigades or Theater Tactical Brigades). Coldstreamer20 (talk) 13:49, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
Coldstreamer20 (talk) 13:49, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
If you read Armies of NATO's Central Front (1984) you will see that Isby and Kamps wrote a long explanatory section at the beginning of each listing to explain things like that. You need several paragraphs/pages of text at the top of the listing - not some obscure book pointers to books on some random user talk page. And lots of footnotes or endnotes.
