Please help replace this outdated license

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Kul att du gillar dem! :) Jag blev inte nöjd med bilderna från första början, och har därför lagt en del arbete i GIMP (photoshop-liknande fri programvara) på att försöka snygga till dem. Exempelvis bör ju File:Tyrgatan 2010.jpg bara ligga i den nya kategorin för den byggnaden, och de övriga kategorierna flyttas till byggnadens kategori... Hej! Nu hade jag en tanke att varje underkategori (dvs byggnad) per byggnadsårs-kategori skulle få representera med en bild i varje byggnadsårskategori - just för att illustrera vilka byggnader som uppfördes det året. Om en byggnad är representerad på fler än en bild får den en underkategori. Den bilden som du nämnde valde jag att inte bara lägga i underkategorin för Kategori:Tyrgatan 10, eftersom flera byggnader uppförda det året syns på bilden, i bakgrunden. Har inte heller funnit flera, eller bättre bilder på dessa, varför "Kategori:Built in Stockholm in 1912" fick stå kvar. Påbörjat eller avslutat

Du som håller på en del med byggnadsåren, går du efter när bygget påbörjades eller avslutades? T.ex. byggdes Alby klorats kontor mellan 1917 och 1918, jag har därför lagt den i kategorin Built in Sweden in 1918, men borde den egentligen ligga i Built in Sweden in 1917? Så som jag förstår det är det sistnämnda året det år då byggnaden "färdigställdes", d.v.s. besiktigades, medan förstnämnda är året för byggnadslovet. A manor house is more like a palace/castle-looking dwelling house at a larger estate/manor. The farmhouse is the main dwelling house at an ordinary farm(?)/Cucumber (talk) 23:04, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

A manor house, in the context we are dealing with, is the main residence on an estate or plantation, regardless of architectural style. A farm is generally considered much more ordinary than that. Former / demolished

Jag måste tyvärr göra ett påpekande angående många av dina senaste omkategoriseringar: En "Former industry building" är en byggnad som tidigare varit en industribyggnad, men som numera (när bilden togs) används till annat. En "Demolished industry building" är resterna av en demolerad eller riven industribyggnad. --Zejo (talk) 08:25, 31 December 2012 (UTC)

På vilket sätt är detta definierat? Detta är ju helt och hållet en tolkningsfråga i så fall, och du har din tolkning. Det enda man kan fastslå med byggnader under kategori "former- " är att de numera inte är det de tidigare var. Deras nuvarande användning kan vara någon annan, men likväl kan byggnaden i fråga inte längre finnas kvar (demolished). Alltså - en former textile mill, är en tidigare textilfabrik, och om byggnaderna dessutom i nuläget inte längre finns kvar tillkommer category:demolished industry buildings./Cucumber (talk) 16:54, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Sweden

If you start months in Sweden by 1900, how will Template:NobelYear work? Should Norway by month also start 1900? Both Sweden and Norway have much more images now. J 1982 (talk) 16:21, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure I understand? There is no "time limit" in which year the months-template will start?

Categories with date

Dear Cucumber,

I think that your categories with date have no relevance at all to the subject. It is absolutely meaningless work to put these images about old monuments into such categories. Categories with date can only have relevance in case of important events.

Office buildings

Hej Cucumber. Jag ser att du börjat bryta ned byggnadskategorierna per hustyp. När det gäller Category:Office buildings in Stockholm så tycker jag att denna skall användas för byggnader som är uppförda som kontorsbyggnader, och inte som nu - bostadshus, gamla adelspalats eller andra byggnadstyper som senare blivit kontoriserade. I vissa av dessa fall innehåller de ännu bostäder i de övre våningarna, varför kategoriseringen blir direkt missvisande. --I99pema (talk) 18:26, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Hej, Ja det kanske blir missvisande ur en sådan synvinkel. Men i sådana fall kanske dubbla kategorier kan köras (ex aparment buildings in... och office buildings in...)? Vissa av byggnaderna (Category:Fordbyggnaden Stockholms frihamn) är ju en typisk industribyggnad till sitt utseende - men sedan länge välkänd kontorsbyggnad, numera åt OMX. Hur ska denna kategoriseras? I dagsläget har den följande kateogrier (Category:Stockholms frihamn - Category:Ford Motor Company facilities - Category:Buildings in Gärdet - Category:Former factories in Sweden - Category:Factories in Stockholm - Category:Storage buildings in Stockholm - Category:Office buildings in Stockholm - Category:Built in Stockholm in 1931)./Cucumber (talk) 23:56, 13 October 2013 (UTC)

Jo, det finns väl ingen entydig lösning. Jag tycker att byggnaderna i första han skall kategoriseras efter byggnadstyp snarare än användningsområde. Om man letar en genrebild på ett kontorshus för en text så tror jag det är föga troligt att man kommer välja ett kontoriserat bostadshus som illustration. I detta fall kommer kategorin Office building endast fungera som information om nuvarande användning, något som dessutom kan komma att ändras och där vi inte vet hur det kommer att underhållas. Dubbla kategorier är väl också en möjlighet, men då skulle jag föredra att detta förklarades i Description: typ. Bostadshus, senare kontoriserat. --I99pema (talk) 07:31, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Tack för tipsen, jag ska ha dem åtanke framöver. Men samtidigt tycker jag att det finns en poäng att kategorisera en byggnadsbild/kategori utifrån flera aspekter. Vad gäller exempelvis industribyggnader (i Sverige) så är de som finns upplagda på commons knappast representabla för industribyggnader i Sverige i dagsläget - då många visar industribyggnader av äldre snitt med vacker arkitektur. Flera av dem är också ombyggda till kontor - bostäder - skolor osv. Därför kan en kategori såsom Category:Former industry buildings in Sweden vara passande för dessa. Hi, you have apparently removed Category:Bromma socken; added Category:Bromma District using HotCat) , However en:Bromma socken, Sollentuna Hundred is not the  same as Bromma District, because the latter is primarily made up of the parish with the same name, and the parish of Västerled.
