Image Tagging Image:Glaspavillon.jpg edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Glaspavillon.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{GFDL-self}}to release it under the GFDL or{{PD-self}}to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Hey, it's Dina edit
I guess it makes me old skool that I got my name on Wikipedia... I'm planning on spending some time on Friday uploading the images of Moscow that might be useful. I tended to avoid taking pictures of the obvious the times I was there (though I have tons of real (ie. non-digital) photos of St. Basil's and I never could capture how insanely amazing it is.) As a result, I have some pics that will probably be useful to no one (doorways, ladders, keys) and some that may illustrate some things (random street pics, trucks, graffitti, some churches, stray dogs, bottles of russian beer.) I'm not really sure how to discern what will be useful, so I think I'll just go with what I think are the best, most evocative pictures. Happy for any input, and I'll probably seek you out as I work on it. Dsmack 02:24, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Wow, I never realized before that my welcome message was from "the" Angela. At the time I recieved it I was pretty much like "what's going on? why is this woman writing to me? Did I do something wrong?" Which frankly I think might be a lot of new user's response to welcome messages. My user name here is a variation on a username I use a lot of places, I mostly insert the word "smack" into other things to create them. It's a longer story than that, of course, but it makes sense. BTW I always use something like this if I want to type in cyrillic. It has the westernized version of the keyboard (meaning if you want б you can type "B") and then you just cut and paste. The cyrillic symbols they include on the bottom of the editing page are a nice idea, but man, they take a long time. пока пятница! Dsmack 17:24, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
Hey, I'm having some trouble understanding how the categories work in relationship to images -- do I need to specify that it's a cat on the english wikpedia? And it seems like some of the cats you suggested are articles and not categories, though they make sense as a possible destination for these pics. Could you clarify? I do have a lot more, but I decided to just upload three in case I did something wrong license-wise and unleashed a shitstorm of image critcism on myself. Apparently I did not, so more pics to come! Dsmack 16:07, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
- Also, should the image titles and cats be in english or russian? There's a Категория:Пиво over at the ru.wikipedia, though no article on russian beer (!). Or could they be in both? I'm not sure about the internationality of the commons. Dsmack 16:29, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

I found this welcome template to be tres useful in finding things, so useful I put it on my user page when I got the other one. ++Lar: t/c 02:21, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Roskosmos edit
I do not know who owns the copyright for it. At the Soviet times it was probably TASS copyright that was freely distributed to everybody (TASS was ideological not a commercial organization), and now it is simply a mess. I have looked through the site of Roskosmos but have not found any mentioning of copyright, although the site is specifically built to search for documents and images. I have sent their webmaster an E-mail about the copyright status and possibility to have some images by a free license. Alex Bakharev 03:43, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
Politkovskaya edit
I have put a translation of my initial e-mail exchange with Novaya Gazeta on the Image description page. After, I got the E-mail from Novaya Gazeta I immediately sent a response, informing that I put the attribution license on the image, with the link to the image asking to fix the license if anything is wrong. I guess webmasters of popular sites know how to click links and if they disagree they would tell me so. A few hours ago, after I read Zelenko's message on IfD I sent another e-mail asking to confirm their approval of the license and asking if it is possible to use GFDL or Creative Commons. So far I have not received any answer yet Alex Bakharev 06:05, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments in Lar's recent RfA! edit
Dear DVD R W: I would like to thank you for your support in my recent RfA which passed 20 to 1. I really appreciate the trust you've placed in me. Please help me be a better admin by giving me feedback when you think I need it, and praise when you think I've earned it. I have had some great discussions with you already, and I think you'll find HAER/HABS to be a great resource. I look forward to working with you. ++Lar: t/c 05:06, 12 October 2006 (UTC) | |
I chose LEGO to illustrate my thank you messagess, because LEGO is a system that we build things with. Commons holds the building blocks that other wikis use to make great things. Without Commons images and media, other wikis would be much poorer. Let's help build the greatest freely available intellectual collection the world has ever known... together. |

Re: Request For Image Move edit
I am still unable to figure out how to move the image to a new location, all of the templates you sent me simply delete Image:NewAdium.png or the original Image:Adium.png but not move one into the others spot. I might be mistaken as I'm finding wikimedia commons a lot more complicated than wikipedia. Alternatively I see there is a way to make edits to an already existing image, but I have no idea how to do this. Any help is greatly appreciated, and thank you for your help so far.Wengero 01:49, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Um, how did you make the translation? Since you don't list Chinese in your babel, I'm confused. I'm not going to put up a machine translation without having a native speaker look over it. But if you asked a friend to write it then that's fine. pfctdayelise (说什么?) 03:19, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
- Well I am not a native speaker. So I suggest you chase down someone else. :) pfctdayelise (说什么?) 03:46, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Category or Gallery? edit
Do you like to make categories or gallery articles (or both) to gather images like the Tweed Courthouse?
Because you're awesome edit
I figured the best thank you would be to get off my butt (or on it actually) and upload some more photos of beautiful moscow. Tell me what you think! Dsmack 18:44, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Whoohoo! edit
It's kind of exciting to see one one my pics used in an article. No, I never ate there, it was underneath the theatre where I worked and very expensive (by Moscow standards, I mean, this is a city where you could get a business lunch -- basically a prix fixe meal, the words in Russian are actually just a transliteration of the english and its designed for business travelers -- with an awesome beer for like, 5-7 bucks.) It was where the more important Americans I worked with got taken, sigh, but never me. I expect it probably cost there what it costs to eat at a mediocre resteraunt here,$15-20 an entree, but one gets cheap quickly in Moscow, even on a per diem. But it often had a strange sort of doorman, dressed something like a Russian version of the guys who stand outside the tower of london (I never asked why, too many questions to ask in Moscow, I never got through them all.) And I passed by it dozens of times a day, so one day I took a pic of the menu (posted outside). Going through these pictures makes me miss Moscow. It's a tough city (makes NY look like nuthin'!) but a very beautiful one. Dsmack 00:19, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- Since you seem to enjoy the pics of simple everyday things (and I do too, that's why I took them) I uploaded some random Moscow stuff that just kills me, its so Russian and I can't explain why. Dsmack 01:01, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
Darn edit
I uploaded a few photos of the Class of 1959 chapel, but I realized that my niece managed to get into every single exterior shot -- ie. the ones that would be most definitely necessary in the article. I can get some more though. (sans niece):) Dsmack 17:20, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
- Check it out, I'm now Участник:ДинаСША on the russian wikipedia (I want to try to get some of my photos into articles, hopefully I won't make an idiot of myself.) (man that's a long URL) Dsmack 18:20, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Image question edit
120dpx|thumb I've been working on the article about Harvard's Glass Flowers collection because it's a subject dear to my heart. I did an image search on commons and found this image of one of the Blaschka invertebrate models which would be terrific but I'm leery of using it. The licensing says its in the public domain because its copyright has expired -- I fear the uploader may have been confused by fact that the model itself is older than 70 years old -- a digital photo can't possibly be. Since these models are very hard to get pictures of (and most museum's retain copyrights to photos taken of the objects in their collections, even if they don't take the photo -- they make photographers and researchers sign something to that affect often) I'm afraid it's a bad image. However, I wanted to check, because if it isn't, I have the perfect place for it. Dsmack 19:41, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
Re: articles edit
Hi! Yes, of course I remember you. :) I am interested in helping, my Chinese is getting way too little use so it would be a good exercise. If you find some relatively short articles I could be well tempted into actually doing so... zh:慈灯寺塔 has actually been done, although I just put the interwiki in then: en:Wu Ta Si Temple. Do you have some workspace on enwp? I won't absolutely promise to help, because I'm pretty busy IRL at the moment, but I will definitely check it out... :) cheers, pfctdayelise (说什么?) 09:45, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi,
I've just reverted your edit. The Synagogue at Neupfarrplatz was destroyed already in 1519 during the expulsion - and was never restored. The synagogue burnt down in the Reichskristallnacht 1938 had been built in 1912 at a completely different place: In the Schäffner Straße, where you find the Regensburg Jewish Community Centre today.--Dr. Meierhofer 23:02, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- okay, thanks. i should have asked before editing it in the first place, but it made sense to me from what i read on the pages. DVD R W 18:30, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
