There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hallo El bes!

Vielen Dank. Patstuart (talk) 03:03, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

--El bes 03:09, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
If I've understood your response properly via Google translator (which is questionable): you do not spend much time on commons, so you don't know how to categorize, and you don't find it so important. It was just a request to categorize the images, because if you don't, then someone else will have to. And if they don't, then they won't be so easy to find. After all, it is a commons policy that all images should be linked so they can be found. Thanks for the time! Patstuart (talk) 03:49, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your commitment. We may also communicate in English. I just wanted to point out, that I try to label my pictures as thoroughly as possible, not only in English, but also in German, Spanish and my first language Bavarian. I do spend quite some at Commons, but my main target is to write articles in Wikipedia and therefore I just upload the pictures I need for new articles. You are right by saying that categories are a nice help, but the main objective should be, that pictures are used for articles and are found by other user, who might be working on similar topics and of course the main principle is, not to upload loads of fotos that will never be used and just consume webspace on the servers. I suppose that all those criteria are fulfilled with the pictures that I submitted here. If I occasionally find a category where they might fit in, I definitively will put them there. If I do not find such a category, I am just happy that I have an illustration for my articles and don't bother the categorization issue any longer. Perhaps other users are more committed to this, but nevertheless it is a community project that grows with the help of many people, isn't it. --El bes 04:23, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
P.S.: Just for fun I let Google translate my German post from above. The result is horrible! It sounds like worst Chinese and complete nonsense ;-) --El bes 04:27, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

AlthochdeutscheSprachräume962 Box.jpgEdit

I just added a subsection to the discussion on AlthochdeutscheSprachräume962 Box.jpg. I don't know where you based the information on, but Old-Frisian was never a part of the German language. The previous version showed the real situation. Furthermore, in 962 Old-Frisian was spoken on the North-Frisian islands. The mainland of 'Nord-Friesland' was colonized in the 12th century. Although, like you mentioned, the borders cannot be drawn accurately, I think this map gives a good impression of where the Old-German language was spoken. Maybe you would like to make a separate map for the Old-Frisian language? In this format? Thanks in advance. --Blautosk (talk) 20:52, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

File:AlthochdeutscheSprachr%C3%A4ume962_Box.jpgEdit

Thanks for this map. But I think it can be improved. Old Frankish doesn't seem to differentiate between Low Frankish, which unlike the other Frankish dialects (High Frankish) was not High German. And the border between Low Franconion and the Francophone dialects was a bit more southward at the time. Machinarium (talk) 01:13, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

That's true, the difference between Low-Frankonian and High-Frankonian could be added to the map. Concerning the language border between Germanic Frankonian and Romance Old-French, I have no data. But a map cannot show this correctly for that time anyway, because it was more a scattered ethnic thing, without clear borders. The Germanic noble class in France may have still spoken some remnant of their germanic Western Frankonian, while the Gallo-romance population spoke a latin based dialect (vice-versa than in England, where the Norman upper class spoke a romance dialect and the peasant population a germanic dialect). --El bes (talk) 21:49, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer. I believe Old Low-Franconian is called Alt-Niederfränkisch in German. The Franconian dialects spoken in Germany are a bit harder to name. "Old Franconian" usually refers to just "Old Low Franconian". I did find a few hundred sources on google books in both English and German for Old Middle Franconian / Alt-Mittelfränkisch, AltRheinfränkisch, and Old East Franconian / Alt-Ostfränkisch. I think that's the best way to divide them (if you plan on doing so!). The only problem is that I can't find an equalevant for South-Franconian. "Old South Franconian" hasn't been introduced in either German or English. But there's is "Old High Franconian" which seems to cover both East and South Franconian together. It's hardly used in German though. Another option is that All of the high german dialects are combined under "Old High German or "Althochdeutsch". If you're interested in the language border between Low Franconian and French look here [1] and here [2]. It's in dutch but I think with your knowledge of German you can get pretty far. Machinarium (talk) 18:05, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
On a second note I found this: Old and Middle High German were spoken and written in central and southern Germany, south of the so-called Benrath line. Low German was the language of the north, i.e. the northern parts of Germany and the eastern provinces of the Netherlands. Both High and Low German cover a group of several dialects. The three major Old High German dialects are (Upper) Franconian, Bavarian and Alemannic. in The Germanic Languages by Ekkehard König and Johan van der Auwera (1994). Perhaps it's best to reffer to all the high franconian dialects as Upper or High Franconian, in German without adding 'old' in front of it. Machinarium (talk) 22:10, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
In historical linguistics a difference is made between Old High German (until about the year 1050 AD) and Old Middle German (Mittelhochdeutsch, from 1050 until about 1350 AD). These two should not be mixed up. The map we are talking about, showes the situation in early medieval time, when the tribal languages still existed and no standard form (German, Dutch, or whatever) yet evolved. That's why the map showes the settlement area of the five main tribes. It is true, that even within the Franks, there existed several dialects, of which one part later became the basis for the Middle Dutch language and the other part one of the basises for Middle High German. But still, at that time they called themselves Franks, no matter whether their offspring later became Dutch, German or became romanized and assimilated into the French population. --El bes (talk) 09:32, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
Absolutely. I'm just thinking about the proper way to split low franconian from high franconian. Dialects were indeed a lot closer to each other, but the high consonant shift was quite significant. Machinarium (talk) 23:25, 15 June 2011 (UTC)
Personally I think, that the early Frankonian was maybe much closer to the Low variant. My theory is, that the southern Frankonians adopted quite a lot from the Alemannic and Bavarian people. The Frankonians conquered these areas in the 7th and 8th century and made themselves the ruling class there (most German nobility is from Frankonian origin), but they also got influenced by those subjugated people. And than this southern Frankonians adopted more High variants, like the en:High German consonant shift. Thereby the northwestern and the southern Franks slowly drifted apart from each other in the 9th century. The exact details of this process are still debated among academics, but this is the most plausible theory at the moment. To draw an exact border between Low Frankonian and High Frankonian is therefor difficult, and also the line shifted geographically over time. --El bes (talk) 18:06, 18 June 2011 (UTC)
Indeed the dialects were probably a lot closer so far back, but I don't think franconian without the high consonant shift was ever spoken in the High German Area. At least, I don't think low franconian texts have been found in this area. By the tenth century the high german consonant shift was already complete. The actual border is harder to determine, but I think some research has already been done, especially when it comes to Aachen (due to Charlemagne). I'll see what I can find. Logo-LAsEdit

Hallo El bes! Was sollen denn deine ganzen Logo-LAs? Chaddy (talk) 02:34, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

--El bes (talk) 04:06, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Also will ich jetzt wissen, was wir in Zukunft tun.
a) Alles was er editiert/uploadet radikal löschen
b) Alles was er editiert/uploadet dankend begrüßen
c) jedesmal wieder in ellenlange Diskussionen verfallen
--El bes (talk) 04:11, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Chaddy (talk) 04:39, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
--El bes (talk) 11:42, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Chaddy (talk) 14:14, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

LA statt SLAEdit

Hi! --Polarlys (talk) 14:41, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

--El bes (talk) 14:45, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
