Image Tagging Image:Millikan’s oil-drop apparatus 2.jpg edit
Thanks for uploading Image:Millikan’s oil-drop apparatus 2.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.
If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. I would consider this photo as a derivative work and have proposed it for deletion. --Matt314 13:32, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Is it in Zarautz (Basque Country, Spain) or in Manta (Ecuador)? Both categories are indicated. Moreover, how do you know where since nothing is written on the Flickr page? --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 09:01, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- I guess Zarautz is OK but Manta in the tags might mean something else. I'll get rid of that category. BTW when you upload pictures from Flickr, don't forget to upload the highest resolution. Regards. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 09:11, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- I think "product piracy" is called "forgery" --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 09:22, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- Since English is not our mother tongue, I asked here... --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 09:27, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
- Yes you're right and it has been confirmed by someone at the village pump. So your creation will ne a sub-cat of "forgery". You're also right about money: it's not a product piracy. --TwoWings * to talk or not to talk... 12:33, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
Hello. The abovementioned image has been marked as another derivative work. Please read Commons:Derivative works and Commons:Licensing for details on what is acceptable before uploading images. You can ask questions about Commons policies in Commons:Help desk. The file you added will soon be deleted. If you believe this image is not a copyright violation, please explain why on the image description page. -- RedCoat 13:49, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
- I am very sorry, but that is not the case. The photograph depicts a creative work, namely the fountain, which is copyrighted. The person who designed the fountain, mermaids etc retains copyright to the work, so we cannot publish it under a free licence. -- RedCoat 14:12, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Image deletion warning | Image:Akasha.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry. If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file. |

Thanks. Now the problem is that Category:Anakin Skywalker belongs to Category:Darth Vader , and Category:Darth Vader also belongs to Category:Anakin Skywalker . Category structures aren't supposed to form closed loops in this way... AnonMoos 05:20, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- According to the "no cycles" rule of Commons:Categories#Category_structure and meta:Help:Categories#Category_considerations, such loops are not OK... AnonMoos 14:53, 14 December 2007 (UTC)
- I see you've done a lot of work categorizing these images, great stuff. But the commons category system may not be quite what you expect :-). It is a tree structure and images are on the ends of the branches, so if an image is in category "Star Wars characters" it is logically automatically under the category "Star Wars" branch and doesn't need to be put there as well. Also as AnonMoos says loops aren't wanted either (don't tie the tree's branches in knots :-). I added "see also" links to replace those loops. Have a look at the changes I've made, and let me know if you don't understand, or if I've made some mistakes :-) --Tony Wills 11:56, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I wasn't sure how to deal with categories like Jedi, or the various classes of soldiers. They are like Category:Star Wars races, parallel to the Category:Star Wars characters rather than beneath it. I think Jedi and soldiers could be put in a new category (under Category:Star Wars) perhaps called Category:Star Wars fighters or Category:Star Wars character classes or Category:Star Wars character types, and then moved out from beneath Category:Star Wars characters --Tony Wills 20:57, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
