DuckDuckGo images [deleted by my request] edit

Hi Gryllida, what do you mean by "email request with permission"? Did they send you the image by email including a permission? If yes, then you need to forward this permission to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org . Or did you take these images from somewhere else and asked for permission a posteriori? If yes, you need to add {{OTRS pending}} to each image site. --Túrelio (talk) 22:09, 23 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

[???] BRUCE LAWSON OPERA.png otrs pending edit

Redacted The File:BRUCE LAWSON OPERA.png which you uploaded has been tagged {{OTRS pending}} for more than 30 days. Unless the OTRS team receives evidence that permission has been granted within 15 days of today's date, the file will be deleted. JuTa 10:03, 8 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

JuTaCan I have the 15 days please? The author was on vacation at the time of upload, and while he did tell me that the license is ok, he couldn't send you the verbose confirmation as required (and I don't have any idea how I could have feasibly learned the deadline). Gryllida 23:58, 8 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Hi, can you please ask again on Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard. I'm not a member of the commons support team an cannot see those mails. regards --JuTa 07:24, 9 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
JuTaI don't need you to. I agree that 30 days had passed by 8 March 2014 with no permission mail received. However, you told me I would have another 15 days to get the message delivered. Gryllida 08:11, 13 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Then please talk to User:Jcb who deleted the file the same day I marked it as {{Nopd}}. regards --JuTa 08:17, 13 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Actually the {{Nopd}} was not needed. The another 15 days is nowhere in the procedure. Files can be deleted as soon as they have been marked as OTRS received for more than 30 days and there is still no valid permission. But as soon as I am absent for a few weeks, this nopd bot somehow starts interfering with the normal procedure. Jcb (talk) 11:04, 13 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Acknowledged. Thank you; hopefully the wording is fixed as necessary. (I'm still in the process of reaching the relevant people for this image). Gryllida 08:14, 14 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

In response to your e-mail regarding this deletion review:

The red-linked files on the deletion request(s) are photos which were linked to Discovery Channel/Animal Planet photos and sites.

The uploader has since re-uploaded File:ICG1.jpg as File:1234GL.jpg with the same claim of own work. This is a new user who has not engaged in any dialogue regarding the deleted files or the ones at deletion review.

The person or company who owns the copyright will need to send permission to Commons:OTRS before the photos can be used here. We hope (talk) 13:36, 23 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:Jill Saward 080627b.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Jill Saward 080627b.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Hello Gryllida/Archive, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

File:Solar Road Palel 350.org.png

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

Yours sincerely, Sealle (talk) 18:20, 21 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for leaving a message that is not in a big orange box.
What was that image? I don't recall anything about it by its name.
May I please have a copy of the image and its metadata by email to possibly recall and investigate in the case I can get its licensing fixed? Gryllida (chat) 00:27, 22 October 2018 (UTC)Reply
And why don't you start by looking at the log? Sealle (talk) 03:55, 22 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

It is not used at other wikis, correct? --Gryllida (chat) 04:02, 22 October 2018 (UTC)Reply

[Done] knitting machine image nominated for deletion; kept as it is from pixabay edit

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Affected:

Yours sincerely, Majora (talk) 14:56, 23 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

I don't follow the deletion rationale here. You say "There are all sourced to a third party domain that takes images from "free" image sites and uploads them to their site so people have to donate to use them. While some of these images are possibly licensed properly without the original URL we can't know for sure." Is pixabay not a good image source URL? Does it ask anyone to pay to view the images as it was free for me previously...? --Gryllida (chat) 18:47, 23 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
It wasn't originally sourced to Pixabay. It is all fixed now. Please disregard. Sorry for the trouble. --Majora (talk) 19:41, 23 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

File:First fkng fireman DT (46702296285).jpg edit

File:First fkng fireman DT (46702296285).jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

There’s a list at COM:QFI but I don’t think it’s complete. Though I’m familiar with this user — they upload other people’s photographs to Flickr and assign free licenses (Flickrwashing, basically). There’s a discussion about them at Commons:Village pump/Copyright/Archive/2020/02#Flickr user Ninian Reid Ytoyoda (talk) 00:34, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
OK, thanks. Does Flickr remove such copyright violations when reported there? Gryllida (talk) 00:39, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I don't think they do. They might have changed, but back when I asked a few years back, the copyright owner has to contact Flickr, so even very blatant copyvio ends up staying there. Ytoyoda (talk) 17:55, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Australia - satellite imagery on Wednesday March 24, 2021.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

These are all addressed. However, gry, please consider adding machine readable templates like {{Cc-by-3.0-au}}. This will make it easier to LR the files. Cheers!

Thanks for uploading File:UK 2021-03 Vaccinated vs antibodies positive COVID-19.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

File:Australia - satellite imagery on Wednesday March 24, 2021.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
