deletion of filesEdit

Hello, I can see you have deleted some photographs of mine. I now have to politely ask you why? I know these were suggested deleted by EugeneZelenko, but I explained to him, and also gave relevant info on the discussion-page, that:

1) these pictures comes all from my family's albums. So there is no legal violation issues whatsoever. But because the are ours private pictures, there are of course no written licences for them.

2) The pictures are all relevant for uploading on Wikimedia Commons, of course not because they are of my family, but because they are integrated in the Wikipedia-articles about persons who have contributed markedly to Norwegian public life.

So I therfore have to ask you politely: When there 1) are no violations involved, and 2) the pictures are clearly relevant for being on Wikimedia, why did you delete them? and why did youu not contact me first?

I look forward to your answer as soon as possible and an open and constructive discussion.

Best regards

Hi there. I deleted them because the photos lack essential information, such as proper licensing and attribution, country of origin, authors etc. I saw that Eugene has already restored them. You would have to send evidence of permissions to OTRS. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 14:19, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Hi there Yes, I saw that, and I will send them a declaration. But for the record: These are old (the newest being from about 1965) photographs from family albums. There are no licencing and attribution existing for them, contrary to what there would be for art-photographs, newspaper-photographs, magazine-photographs, book-photographs, celebrity-photographs or the like, where rights of use and economical interests can be issues. The Relevance for these photographs being on Wikipedia, though, is that the people depicted have all contributed in some way to our small Norwgian society (as the articles about them show).

I have great sympathy for your work, because as I wrote to EugeneZelenko: I am a well-educated person who myself has published 4 written works in different books, and I therefore care about rights of use of intellectual property. But sometimes that category simply does not apply.

Hello again, I have now sent them a declaration, as you suggested. It seems they are busy so it can take quite a while before they they have the time to respond. So please be patient, and do not delete anything before we have gotten our answer.

Allow me a suggestion: Your work is very importaint, but for the future, I suggest you should not delete anything before having informed the uploader about what you are about to do. Such course of action can easily give a somewhat unpleasant impression, where the uploader does not feel fully respected and appreciated for his/her valuable work. And that clearly will not contribute to the constructive dialogue that all Wikpedia's users and contributors will benefit from.

First of all, the PDF is unused. Secondly, if you believe the subject is notable enough, you should convert it to wikitext and transfer to Wikipedia. Please see our project scope about files in PDF formats. Jianhui67 talkcontribs 13:30, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
