Picture of the Year 2013 R1 AnnouncementEdit

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2013 is open!Edit

2012 Picture of the Year: A pair of European Bee-eaters in Ariège, France.

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2013 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eighth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2013) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the most popular image in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just one image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on . Click here to learn more and vote »

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

Church of St.Giles (Milevsko)- Czech RepublicEdit

Good evening, I would like to ask you, why have you decided to delete some images from the article Kostol svätého Egídia (Milevsko) on Wikipedia Slovakia, images were on Wikimedia Commons. Well, the pictures were taken from one Czech book, which is named in sources in the article, but it is possible to use these images freely, because there is a law about 70 years after author´s death in the Czech Republic. Thank you for your answer.(KKDAII (talk) 20:34, 6 August 2014 (UTC)).

These images had no license and the source was incorrect. If you want, you can request undeletion at COM:UNDEL. JurgenNL (talk) 08:40, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Code issues in User:JurgenNL/common.jsEdit

Hi JurgenNL, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:JurgenNL/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue -- the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript-writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!
  1. ISSUE: line 64 character 35: Missing semicolon. - Evidence: alert(mw.config.get( 'wgDBname' ))

Your administrator statusEdit

Hi JurgenNL, please resign as an administrator at Wikimedia Commons. If you don't, I will initiate a discussion about your admin status. I was the one who nominated you for adminship back in December 2013 and I feel responsible to take all steps necessary after what happened. Jcb (talk) 16:19, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
