A request

I was wondering if you could convert the Wikipe-Tan image Wikipe-tan Birthday.jpg to the PNG format, which I have tagged. All the other images are in PNG, so I can't see why this can't. --203.94.129.158 04:09, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Moved accounts

Well, I gave up with the English Wikipedia, so I am going to be here and the Japanese Wikipedia. I hope that we can still work on images together in some degree over here. こんにちは。jawpのふぇんりるです。こんなところまでズカズカ上がり込んできたのは、ちょっとした相談事があるからです。Wikimedia Commonsには現在多くの画像が日夜世界中の人々によってアップロードされているわけですが、やはり重複した画像がアップされた場合は新しいほうを始末したほうがサーバーにもやさしいですよね。 実は今回、コモンズに重複した二枚の画像が存在することが分かりまして、相談に参った次第です。 Image:First Web Server.jpgとImage:FirstWebServer.jpgです。世界最初のWWWサーバーの写真であるわけですが、全く同じ写真です。どちらか片方は削除するべきだと思うのです。コモンズにおいてKasugaさんがsysop権限をお持ちでないことは重々理解しております。理解していて相談に参りました。-

当該ページのサマリや過去のアップロード履歴を見ると分かりますが、そもそもこの二枚の画像の経緯は、最初にUser:Coolcaesarさんが英語版にアップロードし、User:RomanmさんがコモンズにGFDLで転載した画像を、別のユーザー二人が加工して置換し、それを改悪だと感じたCoolcaesarさんが元の画像を別名でアップロードした事に由来します。{{Duplicate}}での即時削除依頼は過去に却下されているようなので、取り合えず通常の削除依頼を提出しておきました。--Kasuga (talk) 11:07, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Lolicon sample

The file you made located here was initially put into Category:Manga but later put into Category:Lolicon. This was a category initially defined by D-Kuru as being part of the Category:Hentai Manga. You put it into that category after he did this. Presumably because at the time I am guessing that the HM category was probably a subcategory of the Manga category, which what replaced it, Category:Hentai, now is.

I think you will agree that the lolicon genre extends outside of hentai though, because I would not consider the sample you uploaded to be any kind of pornography, nor a manga (since it is a picture and not a comic strip). So, there would naturally be other categories Lolicon would fit into to describe this. After you added your image, Nihonjoe added Lolicon to the Category:Pedophilia. Was this appropriate? I understand the subject matters may be related in some cases, but initially the character Lolita who inspired the Japanese slang of lolicon was not prepubescent, is this to reflect because the term refers to this in Japan, or because it is merely sometimes inclusive of it? The term lolicon is used in Lucky Star for Konata's dad, but none of the high school girls he ogles are prepubescent either.

Do you think there might be a better category to create, perhaps like 'Ecchi' or 'Moe' which would better represent the aspect of lolicon art demonstrated by your creation? I think it's important that this category not be merely viewed as pornographic, as none of the images in the category (except perhaps displayed on the book spines of the library collection snapshots) are sexually explicit at all.
