Review categories

[1] Category:Possibly unfree Flickr images is listed under speedy deletions. Should it be changed? ZooFari 23:13, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi! No that is ok. The difference is that Flickr images has been cleaned up so only "new" images show up there. Picasa still has a lot of old images and we should not speedy images uploaded 1 year ago. Once the cleanup is done we can add the speedy category again. --MGA73 (talk) 09:19, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

This DR

Would you like to E-mail the reported copyright owner here? It may be better that a third party gets involved in the several images he uploaded from this account. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:15, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

The last DR for Category:Flickr images not found-old

With this: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Yellow FJ Cruiser.jpg all of the current files in Category:Flickr images not found-old have DR's written. If they could only all get closed. --Captain-tucker (talk) 18:40, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

Files still awaiting OTRS confirmation

Hello, MGA73. The file(s) listed below have been marked with {{OTRS received}}, but there has been no complete confirmation of its permission status in the last 30 days. From what I'm able to tell, you were the person who added this template. Would you mind taking a look at this again? If confirmation cannot be found, this file should probably be marked for deletion. This should be the only notification you will receive regarding this image, so long as the comment I added to the image description page is not altered. Thanks! HersfoldOTRSBot(talk/opt out) 22:48, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

If you are not an OTRS volunteer or did not add the "received" template to this file, it's possible I made a mistake identifying the correct user. I look for the most recent diff where the template was added, so if you reverted an edit where this template was removed, I can't tell the difference. If this is the case, please let my operator know at w:en:User talk:Hersfold. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Picasa review

Dear MGA,

Is there not a picasa review bot to mark these images ? I thought there was one now. These have stayed here unmarked for a few days. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:45, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

We have a bot but it is not running regular. It has not yet been approved but I expect operator to start it soon. Feel free to leave a message for User:Dcoetzee. --MGA73 (talk) 11:44, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Re: File:Kalpakkam SkyLine.jpg

Hi,Yes, those were images taken by me.It was CC BY SA NC. I have removed the SA and NC clauses. Check here and here. Thanks for pointing out. Logicwiki (talk) 02:42, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

File tagging File:Musee_Aquitaine.JPG

Hi! Thank you for uploading to commons. License om Picasa does not match the one on Commons. If you are the photographer you can of course license it differently on Commons. However to be sure that you control both accounts can you change the license on Picasa or make an edit so we can verify that? Thank you. MGA73 (talk) 19:27, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I'm not the autor but this particular picture is tagged with the [by-nc-sa] licence as I wrote in the Licensing section. Tiraden (talk) 10:39, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
Hello, if you are not the author it is not a good idea to use {{self|whatever...}}. As for the license the -nc--part of the license is a problem. You can see more here: Commons:Licensing. --MGA73 (talk) 20:42, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
ok I thought by-nc-sa was OK, so I guess you will delete the picture. I will try to take the same by myself. Tiraden (talk) 21:04, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

Note

OK. Thanks for that message on picasa. As an aside, you probbly have seen this DR I started indirectly. I doubt there is much originality in it. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:38, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

I think that originality is not the issue. The problem is that is is almost an excact copy of a copyrighted image. --MGA73 (talk) 21:12, 12 March 2010 (UTC)

File:MonteSibilla.jpg

Hi, the image MonteSibilla is under Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike license on Picasa: what is wrong on its porting on Commons? Pietro (talk) 09:11, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi! The license is "Attribution-No Derivative Works 3.0 Unported" and the "No Derivative Works"-part is a problem. See accetable licenses here. So we need the Picasa user to change the license or to send us a permission. --MGA73 (talk) 10:50, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
Hi, the author updated the license of this picture: could you please check if its publication is ok? Thanks, Pietro (talk) 17:54, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

File:Vila do Conde 2.jpg

I thought there was like a two week backlog on images in OTRS, you turned this one around in 24 minutes!! --Captain-tucker (talk) 20:21, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Yep! I couldn't help to look for this. Hope to get all the old flickr images fixed soon. Sadly there is also some Picasa images. Feel free to close some DR's, nsd or npd in Category:Possibly unfree Picasa Web Albums files if you feel like haveing a 5 minutes break from Flickr images. I added some links so they should be easy to find. --MGA73 (talk) 20:30, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi! You marked your own uploads as possibly unfree and you are right. Want it deleted or do you work on getting a permission or? I just wonder why? Did you just want a check or what? :-) --MGA73 (talk) 20:22, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Same thing with File:Walrusaquarium.jpg. --MGA73 (talk) 20:24, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

OTRS

MGA73, I was thinking of volunteering for the OTRS team to help out with image licensing and wanted your opinion if you thought I would make a good candidate. Thanks --Captain-tucker (talk) 11:02, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Captain! I'm sure you would do fine. You do a good job and check things before you do something "wild" so I can't emagine that anything could go wrong :-) --MGA73 (talk) 19:33, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Thanks. --Captain-tucker (talk) 19:35, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Anything wrong with OTRS permission?

Did anything go wrong with the OTRS permission for the files listed below?

The email from the creator/owner of the copyright was forwarded to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org on February 22. Deleting these files would create inconveniences, since they are used in an article which participates in a quality competition. I have just resent that mail. Thank you. -- Victor Blacus (talk) 10:46, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Old parrot book

Re: File:Cyanoliseus patagonus -Psittacara patagonica Patagonian Parrakeet-Maccaw -by Edward Lear 1812-1888.jpg. I uploaded this image from flickr with a creative commons licence, but it is clearly more than 100 years old, so I wondered how to change the licence. Would I need to remove the creative commons and flickr review templates (avoiding flickr review problems) when I put on a PD licence tag? Snowmanradio (talk) 14:36, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi! Yes there is "a bunch" of images like that. You can change the cc-whatever to pd-old and as for the flickr review template it is not needed. I (or any other) just have to remember to exclude images from Edward Lear if I/we ever again use a bot to ask for Flickr review. --MGA73 (talk) 20:28, 16 March 2010 (UTC)
Does it need a link back to flickr in the source? Can this {{User:Flickr upload bot/upload|date=19:05, 15 March 2010 (UTC)|reviewer=Snowmanradio}} be deleted? Snowmanradio (talk) 00:54, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Well. Normally we like to have a source at the images. But I doubt it will be a big problem if the Flickr link is removed. --MGA73 (talk) 07:27, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Are all of the file details OK as it is now? Snowmanradio (talk) 19:44, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
I think that Edward Lear should be the author :-) --MGA73 (talk) 19:50, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. That sounds obviously correct, so I have amended the author details for over 40 images in the category. A few images in the category were uploaded from another source. Snowmanradio (talk) 23:09, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Esplanada

As you are active there, you might want to have a look at Commons:Esplanada. He seems to be asking about a specific Flickr stream and if he can use a license tag with that one. Apparently one of the tools prevents him from doing so. -- User:Docu at 19:42, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

I do not speak that language but I can't se why it should not work. --MGA73 (talk) 21:18, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Me neither, maybe he should try tools:~magnus/flickr2commons.php -- User:Docu at 21:24, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Perhaps that will work better :-) --MGA73 (talk) 21:53, 20 March 2010 (UTC)

Wales geo-cats

Hi. I've come across several cases where your bot created Wales geo-cats but got the county cats wrong. Specifically, it seems to have created a ?lot of red category links for *Geography in... whereas the correct term should be *Geography of. The ones I've come across were all in the Category:Moorlands in Wales, such as this one (which is now corrected). I could manually correct the sub-cats in the *Moorlands in Wales category but there may be more in other categories. Could you please get your bot to check for these red links and correct them by simply replacing *in* with *of*? Thanks. Anatiomaros (talk) 22:37, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank you. I fixed the "Morelands in xxx". Please let me know if you find any other mistakes like these. It is hard to find these mistakes. --MGA73 (talk) 22:49, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
Thank you MGA73 - quick work! I'll keep an eye open for any similar mistakes. Regards, Anatiomaros (talk) 00:14, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

File:MichaelGambon3068033971 9892fa1f45.jpg

I don't see any permission on any talk page. Do you? If not, it is better to DR this picture. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 04:44, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

search for that wording, someone is following examples here, there is no permission and there never will be one. Also see, that the uploader "فيكتور غوميز مارتينيز" has nothing to do with ar.wp but is a spanish wp user. Checking es:Michael Gambon last 500 edits and searching for the CommonsDelinker edits we see a lot of vandalism 1 1/2 year ago. That leads to File:Sir Michael Gambon.jpg, the file was uploaded by a user called Belen Gómez. Accidentially this arabic name is translated - see yourself ;) I'm convinced that this is a strange long time abuser related to es.wp and Harry Potter topics, not saw him a long time, but time for me to check es:Categoría:Harry Potter for images. --Martin H. (talk) 05:11, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
We can delete recent unfree Flickr images so I did that. We can undelete if permission shows up and is ok. --MGA73 (talk) 07:49, 22 March 2010 (UTC)
  •   Comment: Thanks for acting. I remember this flickr picture because it was deleted some time ago...and there was never any permission or free license for it. I look for the 'talkpage message' and there is nothing. With best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 20:13, 22 March 2010 (UTC)

Re: Category:OTRS Pending

Glancing at a few of these at random, it looks as though they're all marked with {{OTRS received}} - these files have had some sort of information sent in to OTRS, but it wasn't sufficient (for whatever reason) to confirm the permission status. The bot does notify the OTRS volunteer who added this template about these images once - when it does so, it adds a comment to the image so it knows not to pester them again, but takes no further action. To get these cleared out, you'll need to talk to the OTRS volunteer who added the template to see what's going on with those images. I don't have access to the system, so can't look into this myself. Hersfold (talk/work) 23:55, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

I can't do the latter, as I'm not an OTRS volunteer so have no way to check up on those images to see if any progress has been made, and even if I were, the bot has no way to make that judgment on its own. As for the former, that is an idea, but again, I'd rather not do so myself as I'm not very active on this project and I don't want to interfere with how the OTRS team runs things. Hersfold (talk/work)

OTRS not needed

Hi! Just wondering why OTRS is not needed here [2]? --MGA73 (talk) 20:53, 25 March 2010 (UTC)

The image is flickrreviewed. Stifle (talk) 21:09, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes but as I understand it Flick user is not photographer. And then Flickr review is irrelevant. --MGA73 (talk) 21:51, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
See Commons:Deletion requests/File:Winner Miss Russia 2010.jpg --MGA73 (talk) 21:56, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
OK I understand now. I'll tag them as permissionOTRS. Stifle (talk) 14:14, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

OTRS discussion

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Bottomless Sam.jpg I am referring to the reason for deleting images rather than anything about the image. Is "no OTRS" a reason for deleting images from flickr? Snowmanradio (talk) 14:51, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Thank you. I made a comment. The problem is not Flickr but if subject gave permission. --MGA73 (talk) 19:14, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
I note that the user that initiated the above deletion request has put a "no source and warning of speedy delete in 7 days" tag on a different photograph that seems to me to be {{own}} work. Snowmanradio (talk) 23:12, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
You are always welcome to change unclear "no whatever" to a ordenary deletion request. --MGA73 (talk) 23:14, 26 March 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. I see. Snowmanradio (talk) 23:29, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

File:Nikki5.jpg

I suspect that this image has no OTRS permission and was just 'taken' from her own web site. (this is the uploader's sole image here and the cc-zero license tag is not normal practise as the web site owner's all usually want some kind of attribution) But can you check the permission just to be sure? If there is no permission, it should be speedily deleted or tagged as a copyvio...since it is in use and is violating someone's rights. Regards and goodnight, --Leoboudv (talk) 08:36, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

I could not find anything in OTRS so I added no permission to give uploader a chance to fix it. If there is not a quick response I agree we shuld delete it. --MGA73 (talk) 15:02, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
  •   Comment: This image is surely a copyvio...and should be deleted as such. I wonder if the captain or someone else will eventually delete it as it infringes on someone else's rights. Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 18:02, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
It is a copyvio if there is no permission. All images tagged with "no permission" is normally deleted after 7 days. --MGA73 (talk) 18:04, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Flickr images not found-old

Hey, I was just wondering what's the purpose of this category/template. Is it only temporary or forever? Because the category is empty except for one image, which is however nominated for deletion. If it's temporary only, then I think we might be safe to remove the tag from the one image and delete cat and template. --The Evil IP address (talk) 12:16, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

It is supposed to be temporary and was used when we had hundreds of old images from Flickr that for some reason was never flickrreviewed. Would be nice if you could close the DR, delete the category and the matching template :-) --MGA73 (talk) 14:55, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Ok, thanks for the info. I looked into the DR, closed it and deleted the two pages. --The Evil IP address (talk) 17:23, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Super... I removed the last bit [3] so that is the end of that story :-) --MGA73 (talk) 17:25, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks! HersfoldOTRSBot(talk/opt out) 00:57, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

If you are not an OTRS volunteer or did not add the "received" template to this file, it's possible I made a mistake identifying the correct user. Hi! The problem was the person who sent the permission to the OTRS was not the author of this picture, but the person pictured. I asked him to provide a permission from the author, but as far as I know, he hasn't sent one so far. Best. Powerek38 (talk) 15:33, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
My best wishes to you, I am the uploader of this photo. Update on File:Nikki5.jpg

There is supposed to be a rough OTRS message now but personally I doubt the sender is the copyright owner....but maybe you can check it? IMO, how many people license screenshots on a cc by zero license? Maybe you can contact Andrew about the message. Since this is the uploaders only photo on Commons, I maintain my support for delete. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:13, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

There is this replacement:

A permission has been send to OTRS. However it is not good enough but there is a volunteer working on it. I think he will delete or add a speedy-tag if no answer is received. --MGA73 (talk) 07:52, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Is OTRS needed?

Re: File:Robbin.jpg : probably needs OTRS. I would like to know what to do about this image. Snowmanradio (talk) 14:27, 4 April 2010 (UTC) Re: File:Yaezakura Buri.jpg : I can not read the Japanese on the source page. Does it need tagging? Snowmanradio (talk) 15:12, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

Hello Snowman. Why do you think File:Robbin.jpg needs OTRS? The uploader seems to be the author and we usually believe this. There can be reasons not to believe it, but good quality is not alone a reason.Nillerdk (talk) 16:15, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
I have no particular reason to doubt that the uploader of File:Robbin.jpg is the author. Using the same name as the website author, is not absolute proof; however, if it is good enough for commons, then I will not question it any further. Snowmanradio (talk) 19:13, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
It is custom here to "assume good faith" (which you will see/might have seen quoted often) unless there is a good reason to believe otherwise. We can never be sure... If you are skeptical, feel free to contact the photographer, thanking him and maybe asking him friendly to release even more photos (in a way that will not load him/her with much work). Nillerdk (talk) 19:23, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
If name is the same we often asume that it is the same person. If it is a professional photographer or a company we would normally require a OTRS permission. You can also see if that person has many edits on Commons or just a handfull. --MGA73 (talk) 19:29, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
