File:Tanuki-1.jpgEdit

You've tagged "File:Tanuki-1.jpg" and related files for renaming as Nyctereutes procyonoides. I note that in the English Wikipedia article "Nyctereutes procyonoides" the animal is given the scientific name "Nyctereutes procyonoides viverrinus". Should the files be renamed using that name instead? — Cheers, JackLee talk 16:04, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi Jacklee. Yes, you can rename it with that subspecies name. Have you already see, that there are about 7 files to rename so? Thank you very much. --Micha (talk) 16:53, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
OK, will get on to it shortly. — Cheers, JackLee talk 17:33, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Your uploads on January 14, 2011 : CategorisationEdit

Hi, please use useful categories and don't over-categorize your images, i.e. please do not categorize your uploads (an example of your recent activity):

Category:Seefeld (Quarter Zürich) +
Category:Sculptures in Zürich +
Category:Kinetic art +
Category:Jean Tinguely +
Category:Expo 1964 +
Category:Zürichhorn

You'll help to save time and capacity on commons by categorizing:

Category:Heureka (Jean Tinguely)

Please use as far as possible the category of the regarding city/town/village or district (if there's no category) etc., or, a localized better 'fitting' i.e. the 'most fitting"' category(ies). Do not add - in addition - the categories of the "parent category", among them cities, states and countries etc.

For further information on categories please read Commons:Categories referring to an accurate categorisation, simplifying your further uploads and categorisation in general. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the commons:help desk.

Thank you for your assistance, Roland 11:52, 15 January 2011 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hello, Micha L. Rieser!

Tip: Add categories to your images

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

Uploadwizard-categories.png

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations"). Pro-tip: The CommonSense tool can help you find the best category for your image.

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thanks for uploading File:Advent wreath 2011.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the OTRS system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. (You can get a list of all your uploaded files using the Gallery tool.) Thank you.

Using two of your pictures in a textbookEdit

I am using two of your Borgund pictures in a textbook (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stave_church_Borgund_interior.jpg, http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Stave_church_Borgund_roof.jpg). They will show at about 6 cm high and be credited in the legend immediately below. If you would like anything other than your name to show (such as location, any URL, whatever), please let me know. Thank you for those great pictures.

Hi Iiiiaaaa. Only my name is fine. Is it possible that you can send me a copy of that textbook? If yes my address is: Micha Rieser, Heinrichstrasse 235, 8005 Zürich, Switzerland. Thank you very much in advance. --Micha (talk) 06:18, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
