File:Juniper at Mabou Beach.jpg edit

Hi Nadiatalent - this one is Juniperus horizontalis; note the scale-leaf, not needle-leaf, shoots. You might want to change the description. - MPF (talk) 01:31, 27 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Oops. Yes, thank you. Nadiatalent (talk) 18:02, 21 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Location? edit

Hi Nadiatalent - I realise this is a long shot (as the photographer is sadly dead), but do you have any information as to where File:Crataegus-rhipidophylla-fruit.jpg was taken? Thanks! - MPF (talk) 10:32, 10 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi MPF – not quite a long shot. The photographer was a colleague of mine, and he took me to see the trees that he had studied. The main locality for that species was at the Deer Park. There was one tree at the Ejby Ådal conservation area west of Roskilde, but I doubt that that one would be a good subject for photography. It is remotely possible that he might have photographed a tree somewhere else, such as a cultivated specimen in the Bergius Botanic Garden, but I'm almost certain that the Deer Park would be where he took photos like that one for taxonomic study. Excellent, thanks! I know Jægersborg Dyrehave well, been there many times in the past :-) (and knew Knud too). I'd think it safe to tag the photo for that location (particularly as he also had photos from there in his Dansk Dendrologisk Årsskrift article), and will do so now - MPF (talk) 00:39, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Wow, thank you, I did not have those articles from Dansk Dendrologisk Årsskrift, although I had heard of them! Nadiatalent (talk) 01:18, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

The compound leaves of Cissus rhombifolia.jpg edit

Hi Nadiatalent, is there any chance that File:The compound leaves of Cissus rhombifolia.jpg actually depicts a different species? It lacks any sign of the (admittedly highly variable) dissection of the leaves seen in other photographs of Cissus rhombifolia (and Cissus alata, which is a synonym). Thanks, Abductive (talk) 01:33, 12 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Abductive: , sorry that I wasn't paying attention earlier to see your message. I photographed that plant in a public garden, not seeing any reason to doubt the identification at the time. I still think that it is correct, as, for example, the description at the North Carolina Extension plant toolbox says the leaflets are "rhombic-shaped, toothed". This is a popular houseplant and a number of cultivars have been selected; also there has been lumping of several species names into one. As you say, the leaf dissection is highly variable, and perhaps the more elaborately dissected forms are being more intensively photographed by plant collectors than the older simpler forms. I see, thanks. Abductive (talk) 10:38, 13 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Assigning genders to writers and artists edit

Apologies, no I didn't discuss it, I was just trying to tidy up the Category:Writers from Australia category based on that there was a pre-existing Category:Female writers from Australia and figured there should be a corresponding Category:Male writers from Australia category based on looking at other categories in the Category:Writers by country subcategories. --Tangerineduel (talk) 08:30, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

For now most of my work of better categorisation is more often based on other pre-existing categories on the pages, or on other sub-categories in other similar categories.
My goal is to just better categorise / diffuse categories that haven't had a lot of attention, or in the case of the above cited balance the sub-categories. Any files that are not clear on what category might suit them I try to leave until there's a more clear to path. --Tangerineduel (talk) 13:37, 21 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
