Picture improvement Mazda 121

Many thanks for improving the picture I uploaded a few years back. It looks much more natural than it did, and a much sunnier day than one usually gets in Utrecht. I'm not sure how far I am meant to feel permitted to retain some sort of pride ownership for "my" pictures having uploaded them to wikipedia, but I'm afraid I do. Categorisation

bb Polo

Dear OSX II

You requested the speedy deletion of the following files:

However, these files have been copied from a genuinely creative commons licenced Hungarian blog. In the right column, in the 14th box from the top it shows the CC BY 2.5 HU licence under the header "Licenc". @NearEMPTiness. The images had metadata from eBay embedded into the files. This means that they were originally taken from an eBay listing despite the Creative Commons licensing. Unless evidence can be provided of otherwise, the metadata suggests that the uploader did not have the authority to license the files as CC-BY-2.5. Categorization

Hello. Thank you for your photo uploads to Commons.

If possible, thank you to categorize your photos. Yesterday and today, I correctly categorized many of your photos. For example, the "Motorcycles" category should be empty, there was yesterday about sixty photos.

I noticed big errors on categorization: example, example, example.

Same demand as Cjp24, and I was about to create a new subject about this before reading his message...
Please, OSX II, try to check a little the categories of the pictures you import from Flickr: I just made some cleaning for pictures of Ford Transit you imported a few days ago (only 8, for this time, a kind of holidays given your usual imports): I understand that some are hard to differentiate, but a file named "1966 Ford Transit (16422831173).jpg" must be easy to categorize when you only have the choice between the 1965+ and the 1978+ models for the old vans...
Like apparently some other people, I spent often time to recategorize dozens of your imports. Using a bot is easy, and I understand that you use one, but maybe you should include some more "human part" in your work? If you decide to do so, I think that several of us will thank you for it.

Edit: this must be a joke, but I really don't know when to laugh about it: you and your bot added 72 files to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter category, with 55 of them having a year in the name. Please again, try to read and interact a bit with your bot...
For the record, as the sub-categories of the Sprinter are already overloaded, adding more pictures of that van may not be that useful?

Photographs of pictures/documents cannot be uploaded freely. As the image is primarily focused on a copyrighted work, a free license is invalid. The picture contains a reasonable amount of prose, an image and a logo that are unlikely to be licensed under a Creative Commons licence. Regards, OSX (talk • contributions) 04:32, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Categorizing of automobile images

Hello, it's me once more. As you also are a member of WikiProject Automobiles and I'm new to the project, I'd like to know your opinion on the modalities of categorization in principal. For example the following files, which were categorized by you, caught my eye:

You categorized "1969 Austin Mini Mk II Countryman (22018127522).jpg" as "Austin Mini" - but why didn't you put it in the far more precise and accurate category "Austin Mini Countryman (Mark II)"?

You categorized "File:1912 Simplex Quinby Toy Tonneau (21612839750).jpg" as "Simplex vehicles" (a category that I had created together with the subordinate "Simplex automobiles") - but why didn't you put it in the more precise category "Simplex automobiles"? Vehicle is the superordinate term which also comprises truck, motorcycles, buses, bicycles and so on...

When I upload thousands of files from Flickr in one go I categorise quickly. It is impractical for me to place each file into the specific category each time. Where it is obvious to me I do so, but do not always get to do this. For vehicles I am most familiar with, I tend to do better. OSX (talk • contributions) 01:05, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Well, I understand the limitations of categorizing such a vast amount of images. I really appreciate your work of uploading so many valuable files from Flickr. When it comes to me, my aim is to categorize every historic automobile as precise as possible and useful. For example when a user is interested the "Škoda MB1000", he probably won't look at files in the superordinate "Škoda automobiles" or even in the most generic "Škoda vehicles", when he finds a category "Škoda MB1000". Category

Hi Juandev, as per COM:CAT, we should endeavour to stick to the "main subject" and "noteworthy features of the image" when categorising photos. The cars found incidentally in pictures of streets or buildings are not noteworthy.

File:Slatina (okres Litoměřice), dům s velkou střechou.JPG illustrates its intended subject very well. However, I do not believe it to be very useful at illustrating Renault Mégane I Phase I automobiles which the image is also categorised in because it contains a glimpse of the said vehicle. By the same token, one could also add categories for the tree, the sky, street lamp, the grass, the house number "9", et cetera. These also make up a small/minority part of the image. However, none of these items contained within the image would be particularly useful for someone searching for a photo of a street lamp or a tree.

Considering that most images of locations in built-up areas taken near a road will contain vehicles as incidental subject matters, the systematic categorisation of these vehicles cause massive over-categorisation problems.

If it bothers you to have these cars as "unidentified" so to speak (because there is not a category to specify exactly what they are), then Commons is better served by using annotations on the image itself or by placing a note in the description. Clogging up categories with junk seems quite counterproductive. OSX II (talk) 12:50, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

Merc cats

Hi OSX, Please could you stop removing the Merc cats ?, The main subject in some of those images is the Mercs,
I appreciate not all images are actual closeups of the vehicles however they're close enough to be of relevance and close enough to be identified so IMHO are worthy of being categorized,

Hi OSX, After taking a break (and reading the above link) I've now realized they're not that close up and perhaps shouldn't be categorized so I've removed the cats & added the annotation thingys .... Category

What part of "PLEASE DON'T CATEGORIZE THIS IMAGE AS SOME WILL BE DELETED - I'D RATHER YOU DIDN'T WASTE YOUR TIME CATEGORIZING SOMETHING THAT COULD END UP DELETED, THANKS" do you not understand?, I also don't appreciate you moving the files especially when you so kindly don't leave me any message inregards to the changes, Needless to say pull this stunt again and I will have you blocked per en:Disruptive editing, Thank you. –Davey2010^Talk 10:35, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Davey2010. Um, why do you have to be so rude? I was actually uploading some of jeremyg3030's photos today, and some files got stuck because they were already uploaded by you (but not sorted yet). You had left these files untouched in some cases for many months. You don't have a monopoly on these files. Other users are allowed to correctly sort files worth keeping if you just leave them there. Anyone is allowed to improve the content at Commons.

The reason I renamed the files is because they were incorrectly listed as "CX2500" when the correct model name as per the badging is "CX 25". OSX (talk • contributions) 11:02, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Because I'm sick to death of people removing the category, I appreciate people wanna help & stuff but picture this - You spend 20-40 minutes on each file categorizing them .... I come along 2-3 days later and have the image deleted, That's over 40 minutes of your life just wasted on images that have been deleted .... To put it bluntly you're going to think "Why the hell did I just bother?" .... So to prevent that scenario as well as preventing people wasting their life I've created this category,

It frustrates me when the entire cat is in caps and it's at an extremely low level of basic English and yet people still remove it, Some of the images I've uploaded (take this as an example) are images that serve no purpose here and a few will be deleted,

I apologize for the rude warning which I've now struck it's certainly not my intention to be rude but when editors just remove it etc etc you can understand why I get annoyed especially when it's now been 4-5 people,

Anyway I genuinely do appreciate you categorizing them and moving them around it means alot but don't worry I'll sort them all out eventually :),

Davey2010. Thanks for the response. I understand what you are trying to do. However, it is important to note that a Flickr file can realistically only be uploaded here once (otherwise we end up with duplicates). If someone wants to use a file that you have put aside to "sort later" and you state people cannot touch these files, you are effectively prohibiting other editors from using those files. This is not a workable means of operating cooperatively.

The reason I feel it is important you understand this is because you keep undoing my edits (e.g. this). I have clearly spent the time fixing this one up because I deemed the image worthy of retention. I only fixed up a small handful of images that I saw that grabbed my attention. Hi OSX, I totally understand and agree with that, At the moment I'm using a TV screen as a laptop screen as the laptop screen's packed up ... and basically the colours are different so at the moment I don't want to sort the images out and then find out on the laptop screen they're not great at all,

It's not constructive at all but in all fairness neither is me allowing someone to categorize something that I could delete (A few you sorted I actually planned to delete however I probably won't if you believe there's some value in them being kept), I don't mean to sound like a dick but why not have categorized them and left the other cats as they were or failing that asked me first?, (I'm not trying to blame you far from it)

Also I'm the only one that has tons of albums at the moment which need sorting and IMHO I think it's only fair I sort them - I'm not someone who uploads images, dumps them in a category and says "right fuck it you lot can deal with it" if you see what I mean, I prefer to sort, csd/cat myself as that way I'm not taking up someone elses time,

Anyway I'll readd your edits back but with the cats as that way I know what's what,

Adding to the talk page trimmer

Hi, based on discussion at the administrator's noticeboard, there is a consensus to go ahead with adding user talk pages that are unattended to be processed by the talk page trimmer. These cosmetic changes trim unnecessary boilerplate text in standard notices, lower the template transclusion count, and will make this talk page readable and quicker to render for all readers, without losing any content. Other users have asked to be added to this housekeeping task for this reason.

Please leave a note on my user talk page, or email me, if you would like to opt-out. If changes by the trimmer are reverted, they are likely to be re-implemented automatically unless opted-out. Thanks --Fæ (User talk:Fæ) 16:28, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
