Wiki Loves Earth

Thank you for invitation. But last time I participated to such a contest (Wikipedia loves African cuisine), I spent a lot of time on it (pics, there categorization, and comments in three languages, among them unofficial Moroccan Arabic) and had no messaedje at all about the results, let alone if there had been a jury, and if my pics had been looked.

So I am a bit "cold" to participate again, especially in this high season of work.

@Lucyin: Don't worry. Contrary to Wiki Loves Africa, Wiki Loves Earth has more experience in terms of organization (Announcement of the jury, displaying results ...), more is the third edition of this contest, you can see the previous editions .

For photos, you can upload pictures taken before.

WLE 2015 - Morocco

Hi Reda - thanks for the note about this on my talk page! Is there any way to add special requests for sites / objects for participants to try to get photographs? I am thinking of the Moroccan endemic Cupressus atlantica, found only in the Oued-n-Fiis valley southwest of Marrakech. Thanks! - MPF (talk) 21:02, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Quality images of Morocco

Hello, I haven't understood this edit. Why are a bunch of my images not welcomed in that category? There are no other more specific categories than that one (as user categories are hidden and not foreseen for the general public). Poco² 17:35, 12 May 2017 (UTC)

Do not take this withdrawal as a marginalization.

If you see the main category [Category:Quality images of Morocco by user‎], you will find that there is a higher one [Category:Quality images of Morocco by user‎].

So please take this into consideration.

As said, that edit is wrong and namely for the reason I already anticipated. [[Category:Quality images of Morocco by User:Poco a poco]] is a user category (and therefore hidden, only logged-in users with specific settings can see it!) that should have in addition regular categories like [[Category:Quality images of Morocco]]. You are mixing them up. I ask you to revert it, at least for my pictures. I you don't do it for any reason, don't worry, will not ask you again, I've no times for useless discussions like this. Flickr2Commons

I have just come across a few images you have recently uploaded from Flickr. I would appreciate it if in the future, you used the Flickr2Commons tool. This tool allows images to be moved to Commons from Flickr without having to download the images to your own computer. It also brings in the largest resolution of the image, as well making sure to list the correct license and url, making it easy for the automated Flickr Review system. Lists of monuments in Morocco

Hi Reda,

Welcome to WLM again :) I noted your edit here about the lists of monuments. However, the link you added goes to the category for the images, not the lists. That means that people cannot find the monuments that don't have a photo yet. I see that the list on frwiki has been deleted though. It would probably already help if we could temporarily restore a copy of these lists on Commons, or in the project namespace. Do you see a possibility for that? @Archaeodontosaurus: As you know I can not review the rules but they should be revised. This time perhaps there is a meaningless image with a very tight scope being promoted while another very rare one is declined because of broad scope. @Spurzem: This image is interesting and useful. I think we all agree on that. But the scope can not announce a splendid palace, and only shows the door. Wiki Loves Africa 2019

Dear Reda benkhadra,

You have contributed in the past to the Wiki Loves Africa competition. Your images have helped people learn more about Africa and see Africa more clearly from an African perspective. Overall, nearly 5000 people like you have contributed to this photo contest, and contributed nearly 40000 images about Africa. This February, you have another opportunity to create beautiful photographs on the theme of "play" that could change how the world understands people and culture in your part of Africa.

Wiki Loves Africa is a annual public contest where people across Africa can contribute media (photographs, video and audio) about their environment to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation.

When does it take place?
The 2019 competition will start on 1st February 2019 and close on 1st March 2019.

What should we contribute?
Pictures ! audios ! videos ! The theme for the 2019 contest is... Play.
This theme encompasses a host of approaches and is intentionally open to interpretation. The theme Play! encourages the submission of visual representations of joyful and serious games, sport, and recreation in the form of board or mental games, physical fun or contests, playful interactions, theatrical and musical performances, etc.

This February, you have another opportunity to create beautiful photographs on the theme of "transportation" that could change how the world understands people and culture in your part of Africa. As with previous years, there are also many exciting cash prizes. Wiki Loves Africa is an annual public contest where people across Africa can contribute media (photographs, video and audio) about their environment to Wikimedia Commons for use on Wikipedia and other project websites of the Wikimedia Foundation. Images from the competition have helped millions learn more about Africa and see Africa more clearly from an African perspective. Overall, nearly 5000 people like you have contributed to this photo contest, and contributed 18,000 images about Africa. When does it take place? The 2020 competition will start on the 15th of February 2020 and close on 31st March 2020. What should we contribute? Pictures ! audios ! videos ! The theme for the 2020 contest is... Africa on the Move ! This theme encompasses a host of approaches and is intentionally open to interpretation. It encourages the submission of visual representations of movement or transportation, whether by path, road, sea air, by self-propelled, animal or mechanical means, or the historical or contemporary structures that have been created to facilitate movement or the transportation of people, goods, or animals. In addition to the value your photos contribute to understanding and African visibility, there are several prizes on offer. Study shows Wiki Love Africa recruitment makes a difference

We are writing because you have participated in the Wiki Loves Africa (WLA) photo competition in the past. Results have been published and winning pictures may be seen here !

This year WLA partnered with the research organization CAT Lab (previously CivilServant) to help us evaluate the effectiveness of one of our recruitment efforts. You may or may not have received a message on your user talk page encouraging you to participate again in this year's competition.

We are excited to share with you their study found our recruitment message was a success and may have resulted in as many as 2,000 additional contributed photos. We hope you agree this is great news for Africa and its representation across Wikimedia. You can read more about the study and the results in this blog post.
