Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Hello Scott -
Assuming you are indeed the artist and photographer, there are a couple things you can do to help straighten out this situation. One of them is to read and follow the recommendations at Commons:OTRS regarding email confirmation of licensing and authorship. The other is to provide an indication on your website that you post to Commons under this username, or that the particular image is licensed appropriately, or both. Then report these developments on your undeletion request. Thanks for your contribution and hope this helps. Dankarl (talk) 21:18, 8 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
This is a routine requirement when an image is previously published, even on your own website, and for professional artists and photographers in general, for your protection as well as to protect out end-users. I am sure you will understand that short of measures such as these we have no way to be sure that some third party has not stolen both your work and your name. File:Judge Maxine Chesney official portrait for United States District Court by Scott Johnston.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Undeleting Image(s) edit

I have sent an email. Now I just wait 5 plus days? Do I need to add something to my website also? If so what should it say and will it cover all images there as I think someone is trying to delete another image I own copyright to also.

Thanks, Scott Scott Wallace Johnston (talk) 01:39, 9 December 2013 (UTC) I have just added an indication on my website that I post to Commons under user name Scott Wallace Johnston as suggested by Dankarl.Reply

The link is:http://www.scottjohnstonportraits.com/about.htm Is this enough proof?

Please remember to refresh if you don't see it.

Yes, that link serves as sufficient proof of your identity to validate your release of these images on Wikimedia Commons. By the way, you forgot to add licenses to File:Scott-Wallace-Johnston-Artist.jpg and File:Judge Charles Breyer official portrait United States District Court by Scott Johnston.jpg. -- King of 02:22, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! So is this issue resolved? Scott Wallace JohnstonScott Wallace Johnston (talk)

Yes. But I think you still have not added a license to File:Judge Charles Breyer official portrait United States District Court by Scott Johnston.jpg. -- King of 02:55, 9 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
