Wikimedia Commons is a crap

Hi! Do you remember this episode? The OTRS system lost the first permission I sent regarding a series of pictures I uploaded into this category, so I asked for another permission. It seemed things had gone alright, but now I discover pictures have been completely deleted. --Nyo (talk) 10:38, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

I am sorry to hear that. Good luck with your other ventures. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 19:46, 7 March 2009 (UTC)

Question re deletion

I'm fairly unfamiliar with Image issues, so I'm wondering if you could explain this to me. I'm sure that there was a valid reason; I just want to understand it. The image that was ultimately chosen to replace this one on the Geography Barnstar is quite inferior, IMHO. Unschool (talk) 00:23, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

This was one of the deletes that I wish I didn't have to do. It was used in a lot of locations. Unfortunately it was discovered that the "base" image was from this image. That makes the barn star you linked a derivative work and a copyright violation. Hope this helps. --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 16:06, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Please investigate possible copyvio

ShakataGaNai,

While reviewing WN articles, I came across this image:

244_stewart_kristen_100506.jpg

It was recommended for deletion, but nothing was done about. Could you look into it and see what you can find. I'm thinking it's probably copyvio of some sort. I can't tell if it's originally a still or a cap of a movie frame of some kind as it's too low-rez.

Thanks, Calebrw (talk) 02:43, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Okay, thanks for letting me know. If I were to draw something that looked like that, would that also be a violation? Unschool (talk) 00:18, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
It is sort of a gray area. If you were to draw a picture of a globe, maybe sitting in a stand, no it wouldn't be a copyvio (Can't copyright "earth" and a stand is fairly generic). If you were to say trace that picture (the original pix used in the barnstar), then yes, it would be considered derivative work. I hope that helps and good luck! --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 02:52, 26 March 2009 (UTC)

Deleting deletion policy

You mean we can't delete the deletion policy? This has to be one of the funniest things I've seen on Commons for a long while :-) Nyttend (talk) 01:59, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey. I'm all for deleting it. Then I can run around and abuse anyone I want for any reason. Having no policies is better for us admins! --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 02:05, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, I occasionally find policy getting in the way over at en:wp :-) Is there an IAR here? Nyttend (talk) 02:09, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
We don't need a rule to tell us to ignore all rules. We just do it anyways ^_^ --ShakataGaNai ^_^ 02:35, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
