High res pic of ballet at Versailles edit

Hi! I noticed you uploaded a zoomed picture from Gallica at File:Ballet versailles.jpg. I'm curious what method you use to obtain the fully zoomed picture. I've been tediously copying zoomed portions of these Gallica images and reassembling them in a photo editor. I'm hoping you know of an easier method. Thanks for help! --Robert.Allen (talk) 06:01, 2 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi! Some months ago there was an easier method to get high resolution images from GalLica, but the BNF changed the display mode, so that the old method unfortunately doesn't work anymore. Sorry, that I can't help you. -- Sir Gawain (talk) 10:52, 3 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Me, too! Thanks, anyway! --Robert.Allen (talk) 02:21, 4 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you so much! Here are the links: [1], [2], [3] and [4] --Alexcoldcasefan (talk) 15:25, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Igor! Are you aware of the fact, that all these images or not high resolution sources? e. g. http://english.habsburger.net/module-en/das-goldene-vlies/das-goldene-vlies/MB-ST_R12-MOD1-03.jpg has a size of 504px × 768px. And you can easily download the images by yourself by right-clicking on the image and choose "Save image as" from the context menue. Kind Regards. -- Sir Gawain (talk) 12:46, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Source of high resolution to be on the flash version of the site habsburger: http://www.habsburger.net/ # / en/1250-1926/portrait

for example: Image Johann Bocksberger der Ältere: Kaiser Ferdinand I., Mitte 16. Jahrhundert http://www.habsburger.net/ # / en/1250-1926/portrait/ferdinand-i.-habsburg-oesterreichische-linie

Igor

Unfortunately, I can not give an exact reference to a specific image on the flash version of the site. You need to search for each image. Please let us know, do you have the opportunity to make this work or not. Igor

I got to find a picture of http://www.habsburger.net/ # / en/1250-1926/portrait/ferdinand-i.-habsburg-oesterreichische-linie. If you're willing, I will define the address on each image.

Ok, now I understand. But unfortunately I can't provide the high res images because the flash player hides the image's source path. Kind Regards. -- Sir Gawain (talk) 13:40, 8 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

If you will be able to figure out how to extract the images, I hope you think of my request. Several high-resolution images have appeared on Wikimedia. With reference to the source: Habsburger So it is possible. Just do not understand how. Thank you for your participation and all the best. Regards, Igor

Dear User: Alexcoldcasefan No need to remove this message. This is not your page. I'm going to restore this appeal. Igor

Hello, Sir Gawain, I would like to inform you that User: Alexcoldcasefan went very dishonestly. He promised to place the portraits of the Habsburgs, has not fulfilled its promise, what put me in a very awkward position. I guess User: Alexcoldcasefan can use images of the Royal Collection in the mercenary purposes. I offered to help him legally obtain images of the Royal Collection of very high quality. This involves filling out a special form on the website of the Royal Collections with the obligation not to use images for commercial purposes. However, he did not want to take advantage of this offer. Sincerely, Igor Sokolov

Vielleicht solltest du beim Hochladen neuer Versionen etwas vorsichtiger sein und auch mal hinterfragen, ob der ursprüngliche Hochlader sie zu Recht hochgeladen hat? Nur als Anregung. Signature of the Princess of Conti edit

Bonjour, I was being nosey and saw that you had found this image. Seeing that you found it on gallica, I was wondering what you searched to get it? I know it probably sounds like a dim question, I was just wondering Greetz ;) Songsblame (talk) 16:59, 30 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I did not search for it but found it by hazard. -- Greetz Sir Gawain (talk) 12:43, 1 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Me again (don't hate me!) edit

Hi, me again :D Are you able to crop pictures at all? As in remove borders etc Songsblame (talk) 17:57, 3 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

I think there was a mistake edit

Hello, Sir Gawain. I know that on this painting the source says that the person depicted is Edward VII, but it's clearly a mistake. The person portrayed in the painting is Edward VIII, his grandson. Cheers, --Lecen (talk) 00:40, 18 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello Lecen. Thanks for informing me. I think your're right, it's obvoiously a portrait of Edward VIII. I renamed the file and corrected its image description. -- Greetz Sir Gawain (talk) 22:46, 7 September 2012 (UTC)Reply

File:Chateau de Tanlay Silvestre 07.jpg edit

I notice you say you transferred this file to Commons from the English Wikipedia. At the same time you added a different source. The image at the source url http://israel.silvestre.fr/israel/affichegravure.php?Suite=303&Vue=12 has a copyright mark in the upper right. Did you remove this copyright mark? Or did the file come from the English Wikipedia? --Robert.Allen (talk) 03:48, 20 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I didn't transfer the file from the English Wikiepdia but took it from the domain israel.silvestre.fr. The copyright mark that is shown on http://israel.silvestre.fr/israel/affichegravure.php?Suite=303&Vue=12 is not included in the image file but is produced by a PHP script. The image without the copyright notice can be found here: http://israel.silvestre.fr/israel/gravures/303-12.jpg. -- Greetz Sir Gawain (talk) 16:32, 21 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks! Very clever! Not realizing this, I painstakingly removed a similar copyright notice with Photoshop from File:Portrait of Israel Silvestre by Le Brun - israel-silvestre-fr.png. I'll try to figure out how to find these non-marked versions (probably by looking at the page html?). Again, thanks for the tip. --Robert.Allen (talk) 06:56, 22 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Actually it's really easy to find out the URL of these non-marked versions: Go to the page where the images is shown with copyright mark, e.g. http://israel.silvestre.fr/israel/israelparlebrun.php. Right-click on the image and find out its URL (with Firefox it should be something like "Copy graphic address", with IE chose "Properties"). The URL of the image with copyright notice is something like http://israel.silvestre.fr/php/waternew.php?im=../images/israelparlebrun.jpg. So the unmarked version can be found at http://israel.silvestre.fr/images/israelparlebrun.jpg. That's all! -- Greetz

-- Gruß Sir Gawain (talk) 18:00, 11 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Photo Use edit

Hello Sir Gawain,

I would like to recommend the use of your photo of Thomas a Kempis (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Burg_Kempen_Statue_Thomas_von_Kempen.jpg) for a book, Teach the Text Commentary on 1 Corinthians, to be published by Baker Publishing Group. The publisher would prefer not to be bound by the Share Alike component in the CC-BY-SA license (CC-BY would be fine) so if you would agree to let us use your photo I will need a statement from you granting permission outside of that license. Picture would be interior, no more than half a page. Print run is 8,000. Non-exclusive world rights are requested for all languages, formats, and all editions both print and electronic. I also need to know how you would like the credit line to read. Thank you very much for considering my request. I will receive no payment for the use of your photo. I look forward to hearing from you. You may contact me at waltonimagesupply@gmail.com.

Sincerely, Kim Walton

Hello Kim,
I hereby grant Baker Publishing Group non-exclusive world rights to use the photo (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Burg_Kempen_Statue_Thomas_von_Kempen.jpg) for all languages, formats, and all editions both print and electronic on condition that I am credited as author with the following line: "(c) Wikipedia user Sir Gawain". Good luck with you book project! -- Sir Gawain (talk) 15:41, 3 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for participating in Wiki Loves Monuments 2013! Please help with this survey.

Dear Sir Gawain,
Thank you for contributing to Wiki Loves Monuments 2013, and for sharing your pictures with the whole world! We would like to ask again a few minutes of your time.

Thanks to the participation of people like you, the contest gathered more than 365,000 pictures of cultural heritage objects from more than 50 countries around the world, becoming the largest photography competition to have ever taken place.

You can find all your pictures in your upload log, and are of course very welcome to keep uploading images and help develop Wikimedia Commons, even though you will not be able to win more prizes (just yet).

If you'd like to start editing relevant Wikipedia articles and share your knowledge with other people, please go to the Wikipedia Welcome page for more information, guidance, and help.

To make future contests even more successful than this year, we would like to invite you to share your experiences with us in a short survey. Please fill in this short survey in your own language, and help us learn what you liked and didn't like about Wiki Loves Monuments 2013.
