Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

- User:Secondarywaltz gave me a headsup that you had uploaded this image. I've uploaded about 25,000 of my Toronto images to flickr -- including that one. I try to be selective about which of my images I upload to the wikimedia commons. I am grateful when someone chooses to upload one I didn't pick. So, thanks for that.

I added some additional categories to the image. If you upload an image, and more than one category seems applicable, you can add multiple categories.

I can see you didn't use either the excellent flinfo or flickr2commons tools, as they leave a regularized URL to the flickr photos description page and to the flickr contributor's profile. They save time. Why not consider using them?

You added this image to 2015 Pan American Games. I will leave it up to you to decide to keep it, or replace it with the cropped version.

Friendly request to revert edit

Dear Sportsfan 1234, you have recently reverted my new version of the Rhythmic Sports Gymnastics pictogram. Since I don't want to start an edit war, I kindly ask you to take back the revert, as I don't think the old version is better – neither from a technical nor aesthetic standpoint.

Parutakupiu did a great job back then and laid the foundation for the design language, but unfortunately is no longer active. I've been updating the pictograms for quite some time and try to preserve the original design as much as possible, also out of respect for him. But In this case the depicted movement and the apparatus were a bit clumsy, therefore the revision. Besides, the new pose allowed me to extend the whole series of apparatuses and together they make a logical series of the same discipline.

I'll wait for your response, and of course I'm open to suggestions if you have a better idea for an update. But keep in mind that as a trained communication designer I will not accept a simple "I like the old one better".
