Blue plaques edit

Your blue plaque pictures are amazing, thank you so much. No Swan So Fine (talk) 21:11, 23 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

William Roy edit

I admire your work on the plaques but I wondered if something went wrong with the plaque for William Roy. Does your image refelect the actual condition of the plaque - and its aspect ratio? It would be great if you could provide a better image for the William Roy page. Peter Mercator (talk) 19:05, 23 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hitchcock/Gainsborough plaque edit

Hi Spudgun, I'm looking for a Hitchcock plaque that I believe you've added here, but I can't find it. This one. Best, SarahSV (talk) 19:25, 31 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hiya, this is the file - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Gainsbrough_-_London_Borough_of_Hackney_Blue_Plaque.JPG - the trick with OpenPlaques is to click 'add yours' then click on the wikimedia image you want to locate and then click it again - it will take you to the actual wikimedia page for it.
This is the actual location :-)

Hi Spudgun, thank you. I've added it to Category:Alfred Hitchcock. Best, SarahSV (talk) 21:45, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
And here it is in place in the Hitchcock article. Thanks for taking it! SarahSV (talk) 23:07, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Ianto Jones' Memorial edit

Hey, I was interested in using your photos of Ianto Jones' memorial in a project I'm working on about fandom, and I was wondering how you would like to be credited, as the photographer. SCgirl317 (talk) 18:42, 14 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

September 2019: it's Wiki Loves Monuments time again! edit

Hi

You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in the UK. We'd be delighted if you would do so again this year and help record our local built environment for future generations.

You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments UK website. Or, if you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. This year's contest runs until 30 September 2019.

Many thanks for your help once more! MichaelMaggs (talk) 15:35, 3 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Nas who edit

Hello old friend! I'm still flabber and gasted at your productivity. Your recent Tooting walk was fascinating. I recently photographed this gaff and saw that the NHLE listing tantalisingly referred to "No 23 was the residence of James Rennell, geographer, in 1792 (GLC plaque)." Have you ever found any reference to the plaque online? No Swan So Fine (talk) 20:34, 28 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

My favourite niche subject! I've been keeping a list of 'lost' London plaques (SoA/LCC/GLC/English Heritage) over the years - supposedly over 100 have been lost since the scheme started in the 1860s but finding out who they commemorated and where they were is not easy - I'm up to 70, this does include several cases where a plaque has been replaced due to environmental factors (25 Brook Street is on it's third Handel) or errors (see the Lord Reith page on the EH site) and in a lot of cases all I have is a name - but Rennell is new to me, good spot! I've picked up a few old 'Blue Plaque Guides' (the oldest being from from 1972) in junk shops but none are remotely comprehensive and none mention this one. They are good for stumbling over references to plaques that no longer exist (though increasingly I find an unfamiliar name, I get quite excited then discover it's still there and I snapped it in 2015...). The most recent 'find' this way was a GLC plaque commemorating Henri Gaudier-Brzeska at 454 Fulham Road where Fulham Broadway station now is so swept away early 2000's although I see that, as is so often the case "London Remembers" had got there before me.
I should probably create a Wiki page for them. That's literally just occurred to me. Spudgun67 (talk) 22:16, 2 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
Supplemental: Being the sort of dude I am, last night I went through the NHLE website, searching for references to "GLC Plaque" and "LCC Plaque" (without quotes) to see if any more references to lost plaques could be found. Spotted a couple of instances where a plaque referring to these former bodies was mentioned, but erroneously. For instance, this lad was affixed by the (Metropolitan) Borough of Walthamstow, a body that ceased to exist at the moment the GLC came into being. Nobody's owning up to this one.
No.23 Nassau street still stands - I'd mistakenly thought it was a reference to a lost adjacent property (specifically the monstrosity to the left of your photo) forgetting that London house numbering can be funky most. Google imagery goes back as far as 2008 - the listing was in 1954 but that's also well before the GLC was a thing, so the 'details' describing the house must be more recent. I think it's a mistake by NHLE.
I've only bleepin' gone and done it. Draft submitted https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:List_of_former_English_Heritage_blue_plaques I have literally no idea what happens now.
