Good evening; the image doesn't come from a book but from a sort of magazine L'histoire de la cavalerie, which is sold in France with a figurine. It's a booklet, which is no more than a sinopsis (for the text) of the small books edited by Osprey. I've got some of them, so I can compare. The fascicule from which I take the picture is called La cavalerie de la Nouvelle-Espagne (The cavalry of New-Spain). The author is Philip Haythornwaite and it was edited in 2008 by DelPrado Editeurs (4 rue de Rome, 75008 Paris). I can't say more on the subject. Quick release knot

Hi. I am trying to disambiguate the photos in Category:Quick release knot; before I started, there were at least two different loop knots in use. I know of still other knots known as "quick release knots". So I created Category:Quick release knots (plural) and left Category:Quick release knot for identification. Hi Una, I'm not sure I understand your distinction. What I do believe to understand is that you call the knot used for horses "halter hitch;" if that's what the knot is called, I'd have suggested to rename the category. But it seems that you're saying that there is more than one quick-release knot? (Or why else have several categories and "disambiguate" anything?) I'm not sure I know what you are talking about. What is the difference between the knot in Category:Quick release knot and that in Category:Halter hitch? And what other quick release knots do you know? The knots now in Category:Halter hitch and Category:Quick release knot are different. The one in Category:Quick release knot is not a a slip knot, because it is tied around a loop, but I don't know its name. --Una Smith (talk) 15:49, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Una, could you explain what quick release knots are? To me, a category only makes sense if there is more than one quick release knot on Commons, but as I'm not sure what their commonality is, I don't know how many we have. BTW, you are not talking about slipped knots, do you?

I still don't see any difference between those in Category:Halter hitch and those in Category:Quick release knot. In each case, you put one end of the rope through/around whatever you want to tie the horse to; then you make a loop. That's exactly what's shown on the pictures in both categories. Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Pet. wood image

Hi Una, I see you added a number of Petrified Forest wood image to Category:Araucarioxylon. The problem is there are a number of different genera of trees found in the park and without an ID on the wood in each image, the closest we should be saying on them is unidentified wood. --Kevmin (talk) 00:10, 30 November 2009 (UTC)

Well, no, especially not in that park. Araucarioxylon is a form genus for fossil woods with anatomy resembling extant Araucariaceae, and the majority of specimens described from the park are of that type. Furthermore, many of the specimens in the park do not preserve anatomical detail; for those the best guess is Araucarioxylon and I think that is more useful than the overly broad category "petrified wood". However, I do think it would be a good idea to add a cautionary note to the category. Does that work for you? --Una Smith (talk) 22:29, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

To be honset, No. Noting that the identified wood is mostly Araucarioxylon doesn't change the fact that the images are of woods that are not identified at all and so could be anything. Also, as noted at the en:wiki page for A. arizonicum, it is quite possible that the woods in A. arizonicum are different genera/species anyway. The best category for unidentified woods is "Cat:petrified wood" --Kevmin (talk) 22:58, 1 December 2009 (UTC)

Well, Araucarioxylon is not a species, it is an organ form genus. By putting those photos in Category:Araucarioxylon, I am merely using the form genus in the usual manner. --Una Smith (talk) 06:46, 2 December 2009 (UTC)

Except that there is no indication what so ever there is any anatomical structure left to determine if the photoed specimens are even Araucaraceae-like to begin with so you are not using the taxon right. The category should be limited to confirmed specimens of Araucaryoxylon not every slightly possible specimen. Images should be identified to the finest confirm-able level based information presented, and the images in question are NOT confirm-able to anything finer then pet. wood at this point.
