  2. The silver of the pale and chief indicates the 127th Infantry is numerically senior to the 128th Infantry in the 64th Infantry Brigade.
  3. The 127th Infantry was federally recognized 1920-07-14, and the 128th Infantry 1921-04-16.
  4. Tradition is that the name Wisconsin means "wild rushing waters," therefore, the three fountains, heraldic symbols for water, are used to symbolize the three Wisconsin regiments - The First, Second and Third National Guard Regiments - which were combined and from which organizations were drawn to make up the 127th Infantry; they also signify that the unit has been called into Federal service three times - for the Spanish American War, Mexican Border duty and World War I, at the time the coat of arms was approved.
  5. The red arrow was the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 32nd Division and the rainbow that of the 42nd Division, during World War I.
  6. The motto "LES TERRIBLES" is the nom-de-guerre conferred upon the 127th Infantry during World War I.

  2. In its right talon the eagle holds an olive branch; in its left talon, a bundle of 13 arrows, all in proper colors.
  3. Its beak grasps a scroll inscribed with the unit motto.
  4. Below the eagle is a scroll inscribed with the designation of the organization.
  5. On the eagle’s breast is embroidered the shield of the coat of arms and the State Crest is above the eagle’s head.
  6. When a unit is allocated to two or more States, the Crests will be displayed in the order of the entry of each State in the Union.
