On a black olla with a ⅛ inch (.32 cm) black border, 2 inches (5.08 cm) in width and 2¼ inches (5.72 cm) in height, a red bull skull.

COMBAT SERVICE IDENTIFICATION BADGE: A silver color metal and enamel device 2 inches (5.08 cm) in height consisting of a design similar to the shoulder sleeve insignia.

The patch shape simulates an olla (Mexican water flask) symbolizing the 34th Division’s origin, formation and intensive training site at Camp Cody, New Mexico in Oct 1917.
The bull skull also symbolizes the surrounding dry, desert-like area.
Black denotes durability, firmness and stability and red is for courage and action.

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 34th Division on 1922-06-28.
It was redesignated for the 34th Infantry Division on 1942-02-01.
It was redesignated for the 34th Command Headquarters (Divisional), Iowa National Guard on 1963-10-16.
The insignia was redesignated for the 34th Infantry Division, and amended to add a border and provide a symbolism for the design, on 1991-02-10.

A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height consisting of two gold fasces crossed diagonally and superimposed by a black olla bearing a gold fleur-de-lis debruised by a red bovine skull. Attached at top a blue scroll inscribed “ATTACK ATTACK” and attached at bottom a blue scroll inscribed “ATTACK” all in gold letters.

Blue reflects the Infantry.
The black olla (a Mexican water flask), suggestive of training in New Mexico during World War I, is adapted from the original 34th Infantry Division, shoulder sleeve insignia and conveys the unit’s heritage.
The stylized red bovine skull is also taken from that insignia and is symbolic of vitality, courage and strength.
The two fasces imply authority and commemorate the unit’s campaign service in Italy during World War II.
The gold fleur-de-lis alludes to excellence and the Division’s French Croix de Guerre for service in World War II.
The motto, “Attack, Attack, Attack”, was adopted by the Division in 1943 and characterized the nature of the Division’s combat operations for the remainder of World War II.

Celeste, on a pile Argent, a bovine skull Gules, in base two mullets Or; two flanches Azure (Dark Blue) charged in dexter with a key in pale, ward downward and outward and in sinister a lightning bolt palewise of the fourth.

Crest: That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Minnesota Army National Guard: From a wreath Argent and Celeste, a sheaf of wheat Proper.

Dark blue is the color traditionally associated with Infantry units.
The torch symbolizes knowledge and wisdom, as well as, providing a better light on past, present, and future operations.
The sword refers to the warrior spirit.
The lightning bolt alludes to zeal, action, courage, communication, and the necessity to synchronize all forms of communication for the success of the mission.
The motto “LIGHT THE PATH” pertains to the ability of knowledge and information to shape and synchronize the battlefield.
The teal color is linked to Information Operations as a branch immaterial field.

Attached below a Dark Blue scroll inscribed “SUPPORT THE ATTACK” in Gold. The device is 1⅛ inches (2.86 cm) in width.

The red bovine skull, taken from the 34th Infantry Division insignia, placed on the pile denotes military strength and vitality. #The light blue colored background is reminiscence of the Minnesota flag, the home state of the unit.
The stars indicate the Divisional Command that is supported by the Special Troops Battalion.
The flanches suggest the high caliber of the unit’s service members.
The key signifies the Supply and Services responsibilities;
the lightning bolt illustrates the communication capabilities provided by the Battalion.
